Guest guest
Socially deprived Hindu women were honoured by Devi Pooja 3/18/2007 9:42:37 AM HK Kochi: A special Devi pooja was organised in Kochi, Kerala, where 108 women from various socially deprived Hindu communities were honoured by priests. Worshiping motherhood is considered to be one of the important and sacred concepts in Hinduism. This also shows the importance of women in social and family life. Selected 108 women symbolised 108 sacred names of God, ‘Adi ParaShakthi’. Women were from different social situation like labours, housemaids, fishmongers and manufacturing workers. Hindu temples usually do such pooja commonly know as ‘Suvasini pooja’, this was in its larger scale conducted as yaga running for 3 days, said the organisers. Sri Sreedharan Namboodiri was the yaga acharya (main priest) for this sacred function. Hindu rituals like this shows how the religion consider womanhood and its importance in creating a value based tolerant family and thus such a society. It was an eye opener for others and showed that respect in women based on culture and religious values is the effective way to tackle atrocities against them. http://www.haindavakeralam.org/PageModule.aspx?PageID=3283 & SKIN=D# Don't get soaked. Guest guest
That must have been great...to be present at the yajna and also hear Guru'ji speak. I was also fortunate to be able to spend quite some time with him while he and Amma were in Bangalore before and after the Kochi trip. sankara menon <kochu1tz wrote: I attended the last 2 days and amritananda Natha was there and I was fortunate to be able to meet him. prainbow61 <paulie-rainbow wrote: Wow, very cool. Guest guest
That's the traditional dress of malayali women---off-white or white dhotis or sarees [ cotton]. Even for our weddings we wear it, so not meant for widows! prainbow61 <paulie-rainbow wrote: --- In , " Adwaith Menon " <menonar wrote: > And now I can! Thank you. Why are they in white saris? Why are they in white saris? I thought that was reserved to widows. Its not really white right? I thought is light yellow. From far it look like white but its not. Over here its called Kerala Saree. You enter a saree shop, you just mention : Kerala Saree, they will give up the same as you see in the pic.
Guest guest
There is a subtle difference between white saris worn by widows (of yester years) and the white saris worn by Keralite women. Generally, white saris worn by widows will not have silver/gold pattern work on the border unlike the ones worn in the photo. , Devi <tclived wrote: > > That's the traditional dress of malayali women---off-white or white dhotis or sarees [ cotton].
