Guest guest
New Delhi/Jammu, Mar 19, 2007: Hindus thronged temples across the country on Monday on the first day of the nine-day 'Vasant [spring] Navratri' festival. Navratri, dedicated to Hindu Goddess Durga is celebrated twice in a year -- once during the spring, and once in the autumn season. Prayers, processions and musical programmes marked the festival symbolising the triumph of good over evil. Devotees in New Delhi queued up outside temples early in the morning to pay their obeisance to goddess of power, Durga. " Whoever comes here with true heart will get his wish fulfilled. We get peace of mind coming here. That'd why we have come here, " said Vinod Suri, a devotee. Strict security arrangements have been made at the temples in the national capital, in view of intelligence reports that terrorists could foment trouble. " From the point of view of security the temple has deployed 1500 volunteers from its side, " said Surinder Pandey, a functionary of the Durga Temple in New Delhi's Jhandewalan area. " The Delhi police are also helping us. We have made arrangements for first-aid from the temple dispensary. Delhi Government and MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) has also provided doctors. " Thousands of devotees gathered at the famous temple of Goddess Durga in Jammu. Hindus believe their wishes are fulfilled, if they pray to Goddess Durga during the nine-day festival. " During Navratri lot of people come here and make a wish. They make wishes to solve their problems. After their wishes get fulfilled they come here again to thank the God, " said Ashok a devotee. Guest guest
And last night, the first little sliver of the moon looked so beautiful hanging over the light grey remnants of the sunset that silhouetted the blue black mountains directly west of our home. It was a lovely day. jai ma! pr , " Devi Bhakta " <devi_bhakta wrote: > > New Delhi/Jammu, Mar 19, 2007: Hindus thronged temples across the > country on Monday on the first day of the nine-day 'Vasant [spring] > Navratri' festival. > > Navratri, dedicated to Hindu Goddess Durga is celebrated twice in a > year -- once during the spring, and once in the autumn season. > Prayers, processions and musical programmes marked the festival > symbolising the triumph of good over evil. > > Devotees in New Delhi queued up outside temples early in the morning > to pay their obeisance to goddess of power, Durga. > > " Whoever comes here with true heart will get his wish fulfilled.
