Guest guest
I have no political affiliations neither am I an NRI nor do I know anything about the politics in Andhra. This forward was sent to me by a reliable source and hence I shared it with this group. I live in India and have often witnessed the biased attitude of the government of a so called secular country. An example is the Family Planning program whch was implemented a few years ago. The Muslims and the Christians, because their religion prohibits it and because the vote banks required them, were excluded from it and the Hindu community bore the brunt of it.I have also experienced the " hard sell " methods of people/evangelists who want to " save " my soul. I agree that Hinduism has many practises that are unhealthy and that the politicians capitalise on it. I myself am a " sudra " and a " woman " ..the worst combination possible according to the scriptures and the caste system! Yet now we have many enlightened people working towards the eradication of many such evils and misinterpretations of the scriptures. Just because I belong to a lower caste or a woman has not stopped me or my teachers in helping me grow into a better human being. I am learning to chant the vedas, I do rites for my late father every year [ something which only sons are supposed to do] but I guess belonging to a matriarchal society also helps because much of the conditioning is not there. The following link has an article on the Sadhu's meet at Tirupathi. http://www.hindu.com/2006/07/17/stories/2006071709040300.htm I have known Swami Dayananda Saraswati , who was part of this protest, personally for many years and I also know that he is trying his best to set right the shortcomings in the Hindu way of life, educating the people and protecting the culture. His nation wide movement called AIM for Seva has been doing excellent work cutting across all caste and sex barriers. As far as I know he has no political affiliations. What I do know is that with all the media hype and the politically motivated programs such as " reservations " and the " minority community " status, the common man/woman and Hinduism at large is the loser. Bhaskar has point out the whole issue is misleading, meaning to incite caste politics. You have said yourself, you know nothing about Andhra politics, then you should not have just join in blindly. Find out first. All this got nothing to do with Shakti Sadhana. Please bring your caste politics out of the group. In future such messages will be rejected by me. Just a little note : Last night after I post that message, my delivery mode in the group have been change. I confirm with my other moderators here and none of them touch my moderator's privildeges. I believe this is a work of an insider. IS there some people here do not like when I talk abt the Dalit? Somebody is trying to send me a message : what? stay off! Guest guest
Pranam, Deviji. I agree with you. Just a thought... About two or three years ago, I went to Kakinada ( a town in Andra) by road and I did so again recently... Three years ago, there were fewer churches on the highway. Now, whetever there is a gas station or not, there is definately a church and they are built quite grandly. There are also disturbing incidents happening in Tirupathi. Mr Reddy is a christian and Christianity seems to have received quite a boost since he came to power. So what is really happening? With Love Shankaree Let my every word be a prayer to Thee, Every movement of my hands a ritual gesture to Thee, Every step I take a circumambulation of Thy image, Every morsel I eat a rite of sacrifice to Thee, Every time I lay down a prostration at Thy feet; Every act of personal pleasure and all else that I do, Let it all be a form of worshiping Thee. Guest guest
Thanks for your mail Shankaree. I will not offer any comments on this as this is not the right forum for such discussions and I have already been warned that such mails will be blocked! But it is sad that the outsiders perception of what is happening in India is only based on media reports which very often ignore the truth and any time Hindus get together to defend their rights or to protest against any injustice, it is seen as " communal " or " caste-based " . I will mail you seperately a couple of interesting articles. Regards, Devi.
Guest guest
There in doubt that there has been an increase in Christian activism in the last few years in AP and needs to be combated at grass roots. This is the result of politics and not any great love for Christianity among the people including the CM. With exception of few states, politics is a game between various powerful Caste groups. All others--Christians, Muslims, Dalits and Poor Hindus are pawns in this game. This is a complex game. To day you may find a few more Churches and tomorrow less or more. Some Hindu activism is necessary, but without falling into traps. This a country full of mine fields. Shankaree Ramatas <shankaree wrote: Pranam, Deviji. I agree with you. Just a thought...
