Guest guest
bhavaanitvam daaseymayi vitaradrushtim sakarunaam iti stotum vaanchaan kathayati bhavani tvamitiyah tadaivatvam tasmin dishasi nijasaaujya padaveem mukunda brahmendra sphutamakuta neerajita padaam (let it) Happen Forever (that I am bound to you in) Slavery (and) Your Generous Sight (falls on me) With Kindness This way (if one) Prays (with strong) Desire to (reach your feet and worship them) : (even while) As It Is Being Said " Bhavani Tvam " This Way (your) Divine (power) Truly (takes him) In The Direction (of reaching) Your Presence, The Honour (there of) (and being one with) Mukunda, Brahma (and) Indra( whose) Shining Crowns(perform) Neeraajanam (worship at your) Feet It is common in any religion to express devotion by calling themselves servants of whichever God they worship. But the word Dasa meaning a bonded slave emphasises this devotion. It is the wish of of the devotee that it should happen (Bhava Nitvam Daaseymayi) that he is bound to the Devi in eternal slavery. The place of a slave is at the feet of his master who is the Devi . And in appreciation of this devotion the Mother looks at the devotee with kindness and generosity When the devotee starts expressing this strong desire the Mother blesses him even before he completes the prayer. Her response is typical of a mother who is extremely alert to the needs of her child. Hearing the fist two words of his prayer " Bhavani Tvam " ( Oh Bhavani ! , You) she reacts immediately because her name is Bhavani and she is being called. This wish is fulfilled and the devotee is at the feet of the Mother instantly. These are the feet worshipped by Vishnu, Brahma and Indra. These supreme gods bow and touch her feet with their heads. Their crowns glowing with light add to the radiance of her feet. In a sense the devotee himself who is at her feet receives s worship of these supreme gods. This again shows her great powers and limitless kindness. She can elevate the devotee to the status of one who is even worshipped by gods. This verse employs a poetic ploy to give two meanings to " Bhavani Tvam " . There is another interpretation different from the one given above, that it means oneness with Bhavani in the sense of Advaitic concept of oneness with God. But Soundarya Lahari is essentially devotional. There is a repeated desire to reach the the feet of the Mother to worship her. In verse 90 there is a similar expression of desire by the devotee that his Jeeva(self or identity) should become like a six legged honey bee (representing the six senses) hovering at the lotus feet of the Mother. Reaching and staying eternally at the feet of the Mother is more consistent with devotion than a desire for oneness with her. This is the most powerful verse in Soundarya Lahari since the Yantra is Sri Chakra itself. Bijaksharam to be learnt only through Guru Expected result of Upasana cannot be described in words. But there is a saying " Sri Chakra Siddhi is Bhoo Chakra Siddhi ' . There is no limit to the powers obtainable with this Upasana. One can rule the worlds. ------ There is a foot note in the source from which I am using.I am translating and reproducing the same below Sri Chakra is to be made of Gold. But subsequently many Siddhantis and Parivrajakas in their interpretation that this can made from Metal and not only Gold. It is said that Sri Chakra worshipped in any form ( plane or three dimensional) is sure to give results and true nature of his self will be revealed to the devotee. But it is indicated that best way is that the devotee himself makes the Chakra if he can. But even other wise, whether framed and hung on a wall or kept on any elevated place(not touching the ground it is always beneficial. This is the power of Sri Chakra in any form. But it should be ensured that the surroundings are clean and pure. It cannot be treated as a casual object acquired out of curiosity. Such an attitude can cause great harm.. Do this meditation till the whole scene becomes automatic with all the small details and flashes every time you start reciting this shloka and you will verily become HER with all her powers and attributes. So why be confused with the words? Practice and see. This is the esoteric matter thats dealt with in this shloka.
Guest guest
Another interesting interpretation was given by Kanchi Mahaswamigal on this sloka. To paraphrase, " Like nithyathvam, amarathvam, the words " bhavani tvam " may be combined to " bhavanitvam " which would mean " state of of being bhavani " and " daase mayi " can be interpreted as " daa = give " " mayi = me. " In essence, this slokam asks for a state of " non-duality " and will be granted even as the first two words are thought of. , " NMadasamy " <nmadasamy wrote: > > Discussion we had sometime back. > > > , venkat bhasksr > > <sitam_subba@> wrote: > > > > > > bhavaanitvam daaseymayi vitaradrushtim sakarunaam > > > iti stotum vaanchaan kathayati bhavani tvamitiyah > > > tadaivatvam tasmin dishasi nijasaaujya padaveem > > > mukunda brahmendra sphutamakuta neerajita padaam > > > > > sankara menon <kochu1tz wrote: > > Bhavani twam dase is one of the most powerful meditative tools we > have in Shakta tantra. > > Just visualise the scene clearly and completely in Technicolor > > > > {{{{{{ " Do you, O lady (bhavani), extend to me, your slave, a > compassionate glance! Guest guest
It is good you have brought out this interpretation of Mahaswamigal. Nityatvam itself is a word with a profound meaning.-- invariableness, constancy , eternity, peretuity. Tvam appears in 3 places in this verse. In 1 & 2 lines after Bhavani and in 3 line as Tadaivatvam (Tat+ Daivatvam?) meaning total, supreme divinity? ganpra <ganpra wrote: Another interesting interpretation was given by Kanchi Mahaswamigal on this sloka.
