Not too much available on the web now (that I can find) that doesn't refer you

in circles.

But.... I would suggest THIS link

bhagavadgitausa.com/kali

There is a wonderful article on Kali Ma with cross cultural comparisons and some

nice images - and the list of 100 names. The only web reference I could find

with the names.

Hope this helps.

Namaste,

Cliff

Namaste Cliff and prem,

These web site is wonderful, but why there are 100, 108 and 1008 names

of Kali Ma and of others? What is the diference between those numbers?

Whay there is not just 1008 names of kali or just 108 or 100? Where is

significance here?

Thank you two,

Om Kali Ma,

Om Shanti Shanti Shanti,

The " namas " are descriptive, evoking specific references and teachings;

they are not merely " names. "

They are also mantras and prayers, each with their own usage and

function in specific situations and for specific devotees as determined

by the Guru. Each successive distillation (fewer names or fewer

syllables) concentrates the intensity of the whole.

Thus, the fifteen syllables of Pancadasi are said to concentrate the

entirety of the Lalita Sahasranama.

*** Why there is not just 1008 names of kali or just 108 or 100? ***

Why is there more than one prayer and more than one hymn to any form of

God? Certainly the Infinite Kali can be approached through infinite

means.

Namaste:

100, 108, 1008 are all sacred numbers, and thus most Nama chants use one of

them as a basis.

What I find interesting in all of the various " Nama " mantras is how similar

the epithets become. If you look at the 1008 names of Vishnu and Shiva, for

instance, there is quite a degree of overlap. In the end, all of these

names exist for the assist the worshipper to visualize and come closer to

the deity in question. I have not looked at the names of Maa Kali, but I

suspect some of them will overlap with the 1008 names of Sri Lalita.

Jai Maa.
