catuh shastyaa tantraih sakalamatisandhaaya bhuvanam

stitastattat siddhi prasava para tantraih pasupatih

punastvarnirbandhaadakhila purushaardhaka ghatanaa

svatantram te tantram ksititala mavaateetaradidam

 

Sixty Four Tantras All Deceiving The World

 

(and) Came Into Being From Thence The Powers Spread (which are) Other(and not

main) Tantras(by) Pasupati

 

Again (at your) Command (and for) All Mankind's Welfare Causing

 

(fundamental and) Independent Your Tantra(Sri Vidya,on) Earth's Surface

Descended This Way.

 

In previous verse Devi is described as surrounded by spiritual powers. But

these are just outer circles on the main goal which is identification with her

and reach a state where the very fires of cosmic destruction render homage to

the devotee. the spiritual powers are insignificant and trivial compared to the

power obtained by total identification with her. This verse shows how

this can be achieved. The means is Sri Vidya. In the beginning, secret of Sri

Vidya was not revealed. Instead, the 64 Tantras were revealed by Pasupati(Siva)

to deliberately mislead the people. The purpose was to preserve the secrecy of

Sri Vidya. But the Mother in her kindness did not want a seeking devotee be

denied a chance to worship her through this supreme Vidya. Therefore she

ordered that Sri Vidya be revealed for welfare of mankind. This verse again

emphasises that for one who masters Sri Vidya there is need no need for mystic

practises and learning. In a way this is a

criticism of people who spend all their time engaged in mystic practises to

the neglect of devotion. The 64 Tantra consist of 41 main Tantra and 23 which

are a part of some of the main

Tantra. The main 41 are--1.Maha Maya Sambaram 2. Yogina Jana Samba ram

3.Tatva Sambaram 4.Bhiraavaastham 5.Bahuroopasthakam 6.Yamalaasthakam

7.Candra Jnanam 8.Maalini 9.Maha Sammohanam 10.Maha Devam 11.(NOT CLEAR IN

MY SOURCE) 12. Vaatulam 13.Vatulottamam. 14.Hrudbhedam 15.Tantra Bhedam

16.Guhya Tantram 17.Kaamikam 18.Kalaakaaram 19.Kalaasaram 20.Kundi

Kaamatam 21.Matottaram 22.Veenaakhyam 23.Trotalam 24.Trotalottaram.

25.Pancaamrutam 26.Roopa Bhedam 27.Bhootoddaamaram 28.Kula Saaram

29.Kuloddesam 30.Kula Cudamani 31.Sarva Jnanottamam 32.Maha Kalamatam.

Yantra is Sri Cakra. Bijaksharam to be learnt from Guru
