OH! Okay. You are referring to the main page. My apology my mind

gone berserk for a while.

Mariamman as a complete deity? For most Mariamman Devotee she is

complete to them. She is seen as another aspect of the Adi

Parashakti. I don't know I am not an authority in Mariamman. When I

wrote that article a loooooong time back. She is one of the many

interesting deity to begin with, and just like any other deity she

have her various manifestation most popular of which is the

Samayapuram Mariamman. I spoke to several elderly ladies and they

told me she is actually Kali herself. Most of the time we see kali

in her gruesome form, but there are the many aspect of the beautiful

Kali. Mariamman is one of them.

Pictures of the various aspect of Mariamman are in Shakti Sadhana

Photo Gallery.

It's interesting to watch as she develop from a village goddess to a

main goddess with her own set of rituals, namavali etc. The first

DEVI temple in Singapore is the legendary mariamman temple in South

Bridge Road; built by the Indian coolies brought by the British

during the early days. Today it is one of the main temples under

the patronage of Singapore Hindu Endowment Board.

Having said this, I would like to bring your attention to:

Muneeswaran.

Muneeswaran came out from India as a village god, but in Malaysia

and Singapore he has become one of the great Gods with his own

temple and set of rituals. Some time back Prof Veeneta Sinha, a

Sociologist from National University of Singapore did a study on

Munneswaran , entitled A New God in Dispora; Muneeswaran worship in

contemporary Singapore. As I read the book, Mariamman came into my

mind and how their evolution seems to run parallel.
