[912] VArunI : Who is the presiding deity of the western quarters.

varuna is the regent of the ocean and of the western quarters. His

spouse is VArunI. The noose in the hand of the deity represents the

power which binds to the world. If one takes her refuge She withdraws

the noose and conferes purity of consciousness. She is an embodiment

of intelligence. She is active in water element and presides over the

water deities.

 

VarunI also means the spirituous liquior. This refers to the ecstasy

of self realization due to ripening of spiritual knowledge. All

dualilty vanishes in this ecstasy.
