[917] MinamUrtidharA : Who assumed the form of a fish.

MatsyAvatAra was the first of the ten incarnations of MahAvisnu.

His spouse, the power of preservation, kept the seed of creation in

the form of innumberable eggs in a colossal fish, after everything

moving and unmoving got immersed under the floor. The Matsya [MinA]

let Manu and the seven sages in a boat to safety. The fish reached the

summit of the Himalayas with the boat which was tied to the highest

peak called Naunbandhana Sringa. Thus the goddess held the form of the

fish to save the seed of creation till the ebbing of that tide.
