Guest guest Posted June 27, 2007 Report Share Posted June 27, 2007 South Asians dominate Green Oscars Three sustainable energy initiatives from India and one each from Bangladesh and Nepal were among the winners of the 2007 Ashden Awards for their positive impact on the lives and livelihoods of poor people, and also reducing carbon emissions June 21st, 2007 http://infochangeindia.org/EnvironmentItop.jsp?section_idv=6#4897 or http://tinyurl.com/287e29 Green initiatives from South Asia dominated the 2007 Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy, with one Indian project and one from Bangladesh bagging first prize in three out of the five categories for which the awards, popularly known as the 'Green Oscars', are given. Additionally, Indian energy entrepreneur Harish Hande was given an Outstanding Achievement Award instituted this year to honour a past winner whose work has made a significant contribution to the spread of sustainable energy solutions since winning the award. Another Indian project, and one from Nepal, also won second prize at the world's second most prestigious sustainable energy awards which were announced in London on June 21. Al Gore, currently the world's most high-profile 'green guru', addressed the event.
