One says that a tyrannical king was called out by a Kumari and oracle teen infused with the consciousness of the Goddess Taleju, and when he did not mend his ways, she aroused the people to rebel and overthrow him. There are other instances where priests close in a divine female, and hedge her about with all kinds of constraints not present in earlier times, and even put themselves above her. The most famous is the priests of Apollo who took over the ancient sanctuary of Delphi. They did not get rid of the Pythia, but they added taboos around her, banned women from consulting the oracle, and eventually made it so only aristocratic women from politically powerful families could fill the office.
