spanda or skandha?

In the closing eight names of Devi in the Khadgamala Stotram the title

" mahAmahAspande "

appears, translated as " She who is the great cosmic support. " Lower on the

page, the name

is given as " mahAmahAskandhe " . Are both forms valid, or is one a mistake?

 

(I note that the online Sanskrit dictionary indicates that the root " spand "

means " to throb " ,

whereas " skandha " means " shoulder or stem " , hence metaphorically, support,

perhaps.)

The text with me gives only Skandha. Still, there are variations depending on

tradition. Let us see what others say.

IMHO spande and skandhe are used delibetarly. One who is throbbing (as

before teh big bang) and skandha as in support.

ADDENDUM:IMHO

mahaaspande should be translated as the great throbbin befoe teh Big

Bang

and Mahaa skandhe should be translated as

" The great support " .
