Seeking recommendations of books on Indian Studies by Indian authors.

Because of the field I want to enter in my long-term academic goals, I am

wondering if anyone recommended any books on Ancient Indian History. I have

been reading the controversies surrounding the current Indologists from

India and it can sometimes be difficult to know which books to buy. Because

it seems practically every side of the story mentions some political agenda

or another by some political entity in India, I just want to know from the

perspective of people from this group on what would be some good reading.

The site exoticindiaart.com has some very reasonable prices for books, but I

start reading about the credentials and controversies of the authors and

then feel uncertain on which books to buy (or at least first).

 

Feel free to privately e-mail me too if one feels uncomfortable reporting in

the group. I understand Indian History prior to 1000 C.E. is in an uproar,

and I do not want to be inconsiderate of that.
