Guest guest
Namaste, At the bookstore tonight I came across a set of cards that are illustrations from " In a World of Gods and Goddesses " Illustrated by Indra Sharma. One of the cards depicts " Mohini Murti " which I found very interesting. I did a little online research and I see a lot (naturally) about the Vishnu and Siva stories, texts, folklore, sculpture... etc. But I was wondering if there are any texts that relate Mohini to Durga. I appreciate your feedback. pr

Guest guest
Mohini is a name that simply means " a charming woman " or " a captivating woman, " etc. A woman who is fascinating. Durga is referred to as Mohini, as are other forms of Devi, but this is unrelated to the Mohini form of Vishnu. The Lalitasahasranama and I believe also the Kali sahasranama list Mohini as one of the names of Devi. Mohini also forms a part of longer names, like Visvavimohini. I'm sure others will have more information. -kulasundari On Fri, Apr 2, 2010 at 9:22 PM, prainbow61 <paulie-rainbow wrote: > > > Namaste, > > At the bookstore tonight I came across a set of cards that are > illustrations from " In a World of Gods and Goddesses " Illustrated by Indra > Sharma. Guest guest
Long ago I found the worship of Mahalasa, Mohini Murti (Vishnu/Narayani). check it out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahalasa Pranam Jay Maa -- Rafael Espadine
Guest guest
I have a Thought Here..... As per " Sri Surga Sapta Shati " -- Lod Vishnu will be in Yoga Nidra - Nothing but Deep Meditation (Balada Krishya Mohaya Maha Maya Prayachati) , He is great devotee of Maha Maya. And As per Explanation Out of all Differant Mayas Only Yoga Maya is under control of Lord Vishu. As per Sacred text -This Maha Maya helped Vishnu in battle with Madhu-Kaitabh. By this Mohini will be on of the avatara of Maha Maya. This is summary of what I have understood. Please correct me if I am wrong. --Vamshi.  ________________________________ prainbow61 <paulie-rainbow Is there someone else here in the Shakti tradition who is familiar with Mohini Murti? Guest guest
Namaste Kulasundari, Thank you for this. I have not yet been able to find the text of Kali sahasranama online, but you have given me something to look for! jai maa, pr , Kulasundari Devi <sundari wrote: > > Mohini is a name that simply means " a charming woman " or " a captivating > woman, " etc. A woman who is fascinating. Guest guest
Namaste suresh babu, That is an interesting article indeed, but I am still left wondering what the implications are that the tremendous and overwhelming power of the creative feminine are taken over by the masculine divine. Why do we not simply leave the creative power of the feminine divine resident in a Goddess? I am curious about this. Thank you so much for the link to this well written article. jai maa, pr , suresh babu <sureshababus wrote: > > Dear Paulli > > Mohini is one of the Avtar of Lord Vishnu... > for more information pl go through the below link. > > http://www.indiayogi.com/content/indgods/mohini.aspx > > Pl find attachment for painting of Mohini > [moderator's note: attachments are automatically removed > by the software] > > Pranam > Suresh Babu > Hyderabad > --- On Wed, 14/4/10, Kulasundari Devi <sundari wrote: > > > Mohini is a name that simply means " a charming woman " or " a captivating > woman, " etc. A woman who is fascinating. Guest guest
Namaste vamshi krishna, I have seen both; that She is an avatar of Vishnu and also that She is a form that He can take at will, and therefore technically not an Avatar. There was a link earlier to a very good article that mentioned these possibilities. jai maa, pr , vamshi krishna <indian_vvk wrote: > > I have a Thought Here..... > > As per " Sri Surga Sapta Shati " -- Lod Vishnu will be in Yoga Nidra - Nothing but Deep Meditation (Balada Krishya Mohaya Maha Maya Prayachati) , He is great devotee of Maha Maya.
