Guest guest
I was wondering if anyone here knows any mantras or prayers that you can say before bath or before eating. Daily prayer kind of things. Thanks, Wilfred.
Guest guest
Gayatri is common to say in the morning when taking the first bath, especially at sunrise. Some people say Gayatri before eating. Before eating, you can also say a prayer to Annapurna Devi or Annapurna Bhairavi to dedicate the food to Her, if you are familiar with either of those. A nice practice is to perform a short, simple puja before each meal, offering the food first to Devi, and then when you eat, you are eating prasad and reminded of the source of all food. This can be mental worship, also, if you are in a location that makes it difficult to perform a puja. Guest guest
You can chant panchadasi or any of the panchasuktams while taking bath. There is one suktam 'Aghamarshana-suktam' which is prescribed for chanting while taking bath. Or simply chant Devi's name or gayatri. Guest guest
There is a very simple procedure before eating; it's called parishechanam. We take water in our right hand, sprinkle it lightly over and sprinkle the water around the plate or the leaf reciting 'om bhurbhuvassuvah; tatsavitur-varenyam; bhargodevasya dhimahi; dhiyo yo nah prachodayaat; satyam twartena parishinchaami'. Then we sip water from our right palm saying 'amrtopastaramasi'. After this we take a few morsels of food with right thumb, middle and ring finger and put it in our mouth without fingers touching the lips or the teath six times, saying every time 'praanaaya swaha, apaanaaya swaha, vyaanaaya swaha, udaanaaya swaha, samaanaaya swaha, brhmane swaha'. During this entire procedure, left hand ring finger touches the tip of the plate. We leave a little water on the left side of the plate which we touch with our left hand finger tips and touch our heart saying 'brahmani ma aatmaa; amrtatwaaya'. This procedure is called praanaahuti. Same mantras are recited while doing naivedyam to Deavatas. The whole procedure lasts less than a minute but has very deep meaning and significance. After eating the food, we sip water from our right palm saying, 'amrta-apidhaanam-asi' and press our palm on the right side of the plate. This is called 'uttara-aposhanam'.
