Guest guest
Hi Brian, All the best for your purascharana. A purascharana just means that we chant a mantra 100,000 times. As a group sadhana, we are doing a purascharana of " Sarva Baadha Prasamanam " , a mantra from the Chandi. Usually, people identify their own sankalpas " chant a certain number of mantras in a day in one sitting etc " , so you will need to come up with a formula - number of mantras /malas that is convenient for you. If you are interested in participating in our group purascharana please post and let me know and I can give you more details. There is also the immense benefit of group participation, and the fact that it was given by Shree Maa. Guest guest
Nandaji, Is this correct? I thought a purascharana was 100K mantras per syllable of mantra one is going the purascharana for. For example 600K for Om Namah Shivaya. I certainly can be wrong though. Thanks and Pranams, Surya ---- Nanda <chandimaakijai wrote: > > Hi Brian, > > All the best for your purascharana. Guest guest
Purascharana of a Mantra involves oblations in the Fire(Homa) and Tharpana. With most mantras the number after which you do Purascharana is fixed. Normally it is 100000 times the number of letters in the Mantra. Suppose there are nine letters in the Mantra. You do Purascharana after doing Japa for 900000 times. One tenth of the Mantra that is 90000 Ahuthis or oblations are to be offered in the fire. One tenth of that that is 9000 times Tharpana. I am not aware of the number for Om Namah Sivayah. Offering 90000 Ahuthis in the Homa will take a long time. So it can be done over a number of days. The last Purascharana I was associated with took 39 days. The fire should be kept burning till the end. There are ever so many details involved which depends on the Sampradhaya or tradition. These have to be learned from the Guru. Swamiji is the right person to guide you in this regard. Jai MAA !!! , " Nanda " <chandimaakijai wrote: > > > Hi Brian, > > All the best for your purascharana.
