Guest guest
Namaste Russell, you are completely right. We do not treat the Guru with the respect and dignity they deserve and require of us, their disciples. Without the Guru, we have nothing at all. The Guru Gita says over and over that the Guru is God. Only they can give us the confirmation that we are on the right path and correct our errors, and only they can be the perfect reflection for us. They, egoless and pure, can take us across the ocean of objects and relationships, and save us from ourselves. We just have to bow to them, surrender-to the best of our ability, and do whatever they request of us. They will take care of the rest. Being in relation with a Guru is total sadhana. Every facet of the relationship provides the disciple with chances to grow and evolve towards illumination. It is an amazing experience. One have prayed for this entire lifetime. And yet, sometimes I just want to watch TV. The ego is such a character. As the old saying goes: the price of freedom is eternal vigilance. I pray Maa and Swami will increase my capacity, in every way, on every level, to love and serve and surrender more and more. I hope that everyone in this group visits the Mandir and meets these peerless Masters. Do not delay, your whole life will change. jai Ma Jai Swami vishweshwar , Russell Shields <rshieldslaw wrote: > > It is said that satsang of the guru is of paramount importance, because with that begins our good days, and all good else will flow from just that association. Some have said that catching the mind is like trying to get hold of a tiny ant on a black rock on the darkest night. In other words, we cannot do it. Also, the intricacies of the mind/creation are so subtle and complex that we are like blind people who are lost in a big noisy city and cannot effectively navigate from there to someplace we just heard exists, but do not know the address. > We in the west are expecially impoverished and backward because we do not know how cultivate and treat the guru. In India, they know the value of the guru and therefore support and cultivate them, as one might a wish granting tree. They are protective of their safety, house them, feed them, arrange transportation and do all things that enable them to help the sangat. The guru becomes a sort of prisoner, but like all great lovers, does not complain and just keeps giving. With support of the sangat, the guru can grow and spread his emanations into the sangat. In the west, we do not cultivate the benefit of the guru. We somehow expect them to do everything for us...period. We miss out on the benefit of seva (service to the guru), and we do create facillities that more easily allow the guru's benefits to radiate to us. All in all, we westerners are pathetic disciples, but then we have not been at it long. > > In order to gain spiritually, it is in our interest to increase our support and service to the guru. That is not just economic. It is doing the spiritual work so that their load and atmosphere is lighter when they are around us. > > Russell > > > > Need Mail bonding? > Go to the Mail Q & A for great tips from Answers users. >
