Guest guest
NAMASTE During the 9 days of Navaratri Maa asked the Mandir family to chant 100,ooo malas of the Navarna mantra. At first this seemed like a daunting task, but, with each sitting it became more and more blissful. Then, I couldn't wait to sit and chant at the fire. When my time was up, I did not want to get up. Just wanted to keep going. Maa was everywhere. She is Chandi, she is the Mantra, She is Divine Mother. The following Sunday, some guests came to the Mandir. After sitting and watching us all chant the Chandi at the fire with Maa and Swami, they wanted to know more about it, and why we did it. They were medical doctors, and they studied attention deficit disorder, and other problems relating to genetic defects in children. They had recently returned from India where they had been teaching and sharing technology to help children, at a large clinic. As I explained the spiritual reasons for sitting in one asan for 2.5 hours, and longer, the doctors added that modern medicine has techniques to teach a person how to focus and stay attentive for longer periods, but, we all agreed, it does not bring one into a state of one pointed focus on the Divine, nor, rid us of our ego and his army of thoughts. With a great a-ha, one doctor said, " I understand what you are doing, because, we all have attention deficit disorder. It is not just a child's developmental problem " They knew from first hand experience that the ego and his army of thoughts is the greatest enemy, and how difficult it is for children, and many adults, to control themselves when they are out of balance. When they have no balance between too much and too little. As I wondered how to express this supreme knowledge in terms they would relate to, the thought came to me: " oh, the Navarna mantra is the DNA of the Chandi Path. By repeating the mantra, one can get the entire story of the Chandi, and be totally transformed. Ma Chandi will destroy the great ego and his army of thoughts, and leave one breathless and blissful. " The doctors, with keen intellect and open hearts, related to the DNA analogy and its practical application: work on the most fundamental level of life, where the power is the greatest, and the potential for change is nearly unlimited, and the changes will unfold on the grosser levels of life. They decided then and there to do their own research into this new model of consciousness. Maa had clearly transformed them. After more discussion over lunch, they purchased the CD of Maa chanting the Navarna mantra and decided to begin listening to it as they rode home. They also purchased the Chandi Path, Kali puja, and the biography of Shree Maa. What an afternoon. What a gift of Pure Love from Maa and Swami. Maa's power and Glory to enact change int his world are beyond description and understanding. We must do everything we can to help Her and Swami as they pray and work for peace in this world.
