Guest guest
Namaste Tonight Swami discussed the difference between devotee and disciple. He defined a devotee as one who respects the Guru and supports them, but does not wish to change, to grow to be like the Guru. A disciple is one who actively seeks to become like the Guru. Who follows the path the Guru has traveled, and works to change their life in order to become like the Guru. As Swami said, the disciple polishes them selves so they can reflect the Guru perfectly. They are the mirror, seeking to reflect the Guru perfectly. The question was asked, " why should I want to become a disciple? I enjoy being a devotee and love the Guru. I offer my respect and love. " Swami said, " why settle for a life of mediocrity. Being a devotee, maintaining the status quo, not seeking to better oneself, is not growth. While working on oneself, polishing the mirror, brings one closer and closer to the Guru. " It is indeed a live worth living, being a disciple. After 10 years, the benefits have been incredible, and the Guru holds my heart in Her hands and leads me daily to higher and higher levels of the mountain.
