As I say the following rosary blessing prayer (this is from the

Ganesa Puja book, p. 9), I have trouble connecting with its

translation. Can anyone say more about its meaning?

om mam male mahamaye sarvasaktisvarupini / catur vargas tvayi

nyastas / tasman me siddhida bhava

translated as: Om My Rosary, The Great Measurement of

Consciousness, containing all energy within as your intrinsic

nature, give to me the attainment of your Perfection, fulfilling the

four objectives of life.

My questions are:

-- How is the mala the Great Measurement of Consciousness? I'm a

little confused about what this means.

-- How/why does the mala contain all energy as its intrinsic nature?

-- What are the four objectives of life?

Can anyone help so that I can understand this prayer more deeply?

Om namah shivaya!

Hi Rosetta,

Mahamaya is the Great Measurement of Consciousness. The four objectives

of life are Dharma ,Artha, Kama and Moksha.

I will forward the unanswered qstns to Swamiji and inform.

Hi Rosa!

This is one of my favorite passages. It is part of the standard order

of puja in this tradition, ie. common to all of them (at least the

ones I am familiar with). Together with the two verses which follow,

it is a beautiful prayer, and invocation of the shakti that is nada,

or sound. In my practice of the various mantras of this tradition

(those few I have done, at least), there are some verses here and

there that just stick to me. Somehow, and for some reason, they become

a part of me and I remember them very easily. I have no idea why this

happens. This passage is one of those. May it bring you as much joy as

it has brought me.

I know Swamiji will explain more...

Jai Maa!
