Dear All, Thanks to YOUR momentum, a new Chandi Group Sankalpa has taken shape. Chris had taken your suggestion to Swamiji, and He has graciously given us a method of chanting the entire Chandi Path spread over 9 days. A big thank you to Chris for representing us and helping crystallize this sankalpa for the group. If you would like to chant the Chandi but were intimidated by completing the book in a day, or had time constraints because of work and the world, then this is a perfect opportunity. Also, if you are like me, and find yourself happily keeping at a sankalpa simply because "Maa told me to" , then this is another perfect reason to participate in this sankalpa. The power of Maa and Swamiji's words, the benefit of the group power will carry us through. So ... I earnestly ask you to join in !!! The sankalpa involves

starting on the 1st day of the Shukla Paksha (Waxing fortnight) , and ends on the 9th day of the same fortnight. OUR FIRST GROUP CHANDI BEGINS ON APRIL 17TH = THE FIRST DAY OF VAISHAK Day 1: Devata Pranam through Kilakam Day 2: Devata Pranam through Shanti Path, and Vedoktam Ratri Shuktam through Chapter 1 Day 3: Devata Pranam through Shanti Path, and Chapters 2, 3 and 4 Day 4: Devata Pranam through Shanti Path, and Chapters 5 and 6 Day 5: Devata Pranam through Shanti Path, and Chapters 7 and 8 Day 6: Devata Pranam through Shanti Path, and Chapters 9 and 10 Day 7: Devata Pranam through Shanti Path, and Chapters 11, 12 and 13 Day

8: Devata Pranam through Shanti Path, and Shapoddhara, utkilana, and mritasamjivani mantras, Navarna Viddhi through Murti Rahasya Day 9: Devata Pranam through Shanti Path, and Kshama Prathana through end Interested ? Just say "YES" to the poll. Jai Swamiji Nanda Please check out http://www.ShreeMaa.org

Jai Maa, Jai Swamiji! This is wonderful. So, so wonderful.

Are there materials that can help with learning meter and rhythm for

chanting of the Chandi?

Namaste Swami Ji, I am great devotee of Chandi Ma. I recite everyday her mantra in the morning and evening. Even when i am sick, when i listen to the mantra recite by guruji, i feel relief and the sick is gone. I never get a mother's love since born to this world as i was given away by my parents to my aunty. There i suffered a lot. To me Chandi Maa is everything since childhood., She was the great mother to me. I talk to her, cry to her, smile to her, wish her good morning etc etc etc. Every Friday, I will keep a lime with a trisul drawn on it. I will keep this in front of her till next friday and would light up a camphor on the lime everyday. By doing this, most of the time my wish was fulfilled. Is this something correct or i should not do this? Please advise. Jai Ma Chamuda! Christina_,___

Hi Sundari,

Most of the Chandi is in anushtup chandah. There are portions, like

the atha shree devyatharvashirsham, that are not. There is a loop of

Shree Maa reciting the Chandi at this link:

http://www.shreemaa.org/drupal-4.7.3/shree_maa_streaming_audio_playlists

Because she is singing, I find it difficult to get the meter from this

loop, though. When I first attempted the Chandi I got a lot of help

from chanting along with Mother's recording of the Durga

dwatrimshanamamala (the Thirty-Two Names of Durga [in the Chandi

Path]). It has a standard treatment of the meter and melody that makes

it easy to learn the anushtup chandah. Here's the link:

http://www.shreemaa.org/drupal-4.7.3/shree_maa_sings_32_names_of_durga

If you have trouble with the devyatharvashirsham (I had a lot of

trouble with it in the beginning), I believe Swamiji recites a little

of it in his audio class at this link:

http://www.shreemaa.org/drupal-4.7.3/shree_maa_chandi_path_audio_classes

Lastly, and best if you can do it, is to order the audio of Swamiji

reciting the Chandi Path from the online store. You can get it at this

link:

http://www.shreemaa.org/drupal/taxonomy_menu/55/107

Dear Nanda,I just got my book today, and it is different from the version I had. It seems to have quite a lot more hymns in it than the other version. In the Sankalpa, on the first day we are just reciting hymns, right? Are we just following each hymn or chapter in succession? Thanks,Shankari KaliNanda <chandimaakijai wrote: Dear All, Thanks to YOUR momentum, a new Chandi Group Sankalpa has taken shape. Namaste Shankari Kali,

the first time I chanted the entire book from cover to cover, it took

me almost six five hours (being a novice at Sanskrit), and it left me

with no voice and very sore knees. And the few times I have the

courage to do it again, it still takes me more than four hours to

complete. But the experience of just starting, sitting and keep going

until it is done, no matter what, is very rewarding, so perhaps you

should just give it a go. I hope our new Chandi sankalpa will get me

into a more regular practice of chanting the entire Chandi path.

Henny

Dear henry and shankari, namaste

My 2 cents....

What I normally do is play the audio mp3 and chant along with that. This helps

to increase the concentration and learn at a faster phase.

I tried this during the last month navratra also and could chant twice every day

(some times I remember chanting 3 times in a day also) without any mind

diversion or change.

May be you also should try this. If one asana is a bit painful you should try

and switch over to a different asana after each chapter.

By this way you will complete the full chandi path in approx 2 hours time.

At the end you could do devi kavach and 108 counts of navarna mantras too.

Do keep all of us posted.

Good luck,

Anand

Namaste Anand:It took me 5 hours this morning. Whew! Do we just have to chant three introductory hymns prior to the Chandi itself? In that case it would cut the time down. Chanting with Swami might speed things up as well. I just chanted minus help this morning. I'll try it with Swami chanting.Changing Asanas sounds like a good idea. In fact I may have to do some yoga to stretch out after that. It was refreshing though.Shanti Om,Shankari KaliAnand Ravi <anandravi2004 wrote: Dear henry

Hi Edward,

All the details on this nine day Chandi Sankalpa are contained in this

post:

/message/22959

This is a daily recitation of successive parts of the Chandi, that,

for me at least (most especially since I am not very proficient with

it), is best done in solitude. Also, it is not structured for doing it

at the fire (if that's what you were thinking...).

The beginning date is the 17th, the first day following the new moon.

We will do it all over again next month.

If you want to participate, go to the poll and vote " yes " , so Swamiji

will know you are participating. Here's the link for the poll:

/surveys?id=12555845

If you have any other questions, or if I haven't addressed your

concerns, please ask!

Jai Maa!

Chris

Namaste, Chris,

Thanks for the info, Chris,

So far, I still feel that I am missing a lot of practice. But, not ready to use the fire place yet, as it had been years ago since last homa. I do look forward to doing that with you some time in the near future. I am on vacation, sort of, transfering schools, so have plenty of time (vacationing here in Seattle), before moving to Portland in Oct.

I have learn Sanskrit, but now that I have some time, I am wanting to use it more. One can start to forget and go at the snails pace, but gradually getting warm with recitations. I'm getting use to the lenght as well, gradually building in the timing. One thing I would like to ask is that, since this is my first reading any prayer book with a group, how is it done? With and or without the group? And at what times?

On the 17th, I will be out for part of the day, but don't have the timing of the Chandi Path program and would like to work around the time thing.

Will I choose my own timing, fitting for me, or will it be with the group as online conferences in the past?

Thanks for your prayer and spiritual heart,

OM Jai Maa and Jai Swamiji

Thank you Chris,

Edward

Hello Nanda,

I would like to join but I am not sure what this sankalpa means? Does

it mean, we have to chant the Chandi (at home, work etc) every day per

the order of chapters given?

I would really appreciate it if you can explain this in greater

detail, Nanda.

Thanks much,

Prathibha

Dear Anand,

thank you very much for your helpful suggestions. After the first

time, I did experiment with different asanas and took up yoga, so now

I don't have the knee problem to the same extent as before. And you

are right, chanting along with the mp3 helps to increase the pace.

One thing I like about chanting on my own, though: I get more time to

read the translation and get the meaning of what I am reading, and I

like to experiment with tone and place special emphasis on parts I

particularly like. I have found that, for me, it is easier to make the

text mine in that way. But, as it takes longer and I tend to stay away

from practice because of that, you are quite right to suggest chanting

regularly with the mp3 also,

Dear Henny,That is one of the drawbacks is the length of time that it takes. The MP3 might speed things up. I'll try that. I also like to lounge around beforehand and read it in English in a leisurely way. That way I know what I'm saying. For me I have to pick a quiet time to recite this, because I have a lively family. I would have to get up early and plug the MP3 player in and chant along.Shanti Om,Shankari Kalihenny_v_i <henny_v_i wrote: Dear Anand, thank you very much for your

helpful suggestions. After the first time, I did experiment with different asanas and took up yoga, so now I don't have the knee problem to the same extent as before. And you are right, chanting along with the mp3 helps to increase the pace. One thing I like about chanting on my own, though: I get more time to read the translation and get the meaning of what I am reading, and I like to experiment with tone and place special emphasis on parts I particularly like. I have found that, for me, it is easier to make the text mine in that way. But, as it takes longer and I tend to stay away from practice because of that, you are quite right to suggest chanting regularly with the mp3 also, with love, Henny , "Anand Ravi" <anandravi2004 wrote: > > Dear henry and shankari, namaste

Please count me in too! I would definately like to join as I have the

Chandi book too! I have not done the Chandi as a group and would like

to know the data /timings. Will you all be doing it at the temple as

a group and if so will be a broadcast on the web page so that I can

join in!

Hi Sankarji!

I cannot give you page numbers, but the devata pranam through shanti

path is that section also referred to as the kushandika. It begins at

the very beginning with, " sri manmahaganadhipataye namah " and ends

with the shanti path, " om santi santi santi. "

If you have any other questions, please ask!

Also, if you decide to participate, you should respond to the poll (so

your name gets on the list of participants for Maa and Swamiji) here:

/surveys?id=12555845

Jai Maa!

Thank you, Chris.

That means the we have to do Sankalpa every day. Of course I will

have to combine the Navakshari Mantra and the Durga Saptasloki which

are part of my daily routine.

I wanted to make this clear since this will be a monthly programme.

And for sankalpa I will have to get Paksha, Thithi, and Nakshatra.

These may be posted here for all the nine days for the benefit of

members who do not have a Panchang.

I will respond to the Poll once I start.

Jai MAA !!!
