Hey Y'All!

As I write this it is just after one AM and I just finished the first

section of the new Chandi sankalpa (Hurray!). Actually, I feel great!

I welcomed all the gods and goddesses, gurus, and holy beings, as I

will every day for the next eight days, praised Durga, removed pins

and curses and unfastend bolts, and put on Divine Armor - not bad, huh?

Tonight I did something I've not done in the past. Before, I always

" imagined " making a light, lighting incense, sipping water, and

washing hands, but watching Swamiji describe all these activities in

his Hanuman class yesterday (which covered the devata pranam), I was

inspired. I liked it (although the incense got pretty thick in my

room)! I even rang the bell during the shanti path, even though

Swamiji didn't mention doing that in his class yesterday. Oh, and I

burned camphor for the very first time ever. I think I got a bad batch

or something. It's packaged for puja, but when I lit it, expecting an

intensely bright, pure white, smokeless flame, I got a yellowish flame

belching thick, black smoke - odd. Anybody know what's up with that?

Though I've been occasionally reciting small pieces of the Chandi

Path, it will be, probably, a couple years since I've done more than

my usual relatively familiar bits. I'm pleased to find that She does

indeed remember me, and that I am remembering " Her " , too. I'm finding

the words often just kind of materializing on my tongue as I recite! I

just hope it continues...

As usual, there are a variety of experience levels involved in this

sankalpa. I would be interested in hearing from some of you (and I'm

sure you all would like to hear too) about your relationship with the

Chandi Path, whether this is your first time or you have been chanting

it for years. Come on, SHARE! (If you feel like it...)

Tomorrow: The vedoktam ratri suktam through Chapter One (not

forgetting the Devata Pranam, of course!)

[i feel like I'm channeling Nanda!]

Chandi Maa Ki Jai!!!

Jai Maa!

Namaste Chris & Group:I would first like to thank everyone for helping out those of us who were confused about the page numbers! That was a great help! First of all Chris where did you get camphor? I really like all the bell ringing, incense burning, lamps, offerings. I love the rituals. I have a question. The individuals in the Chandi Path make a Durga statue out of mud. Do we need a Durga statue?I have just started chanting the Chandi Path. For some reason I usually have a dream where someone shows up and says, "Chant the Gayatri" or "Chant the Chandi Path" or "Honor the Mahavidyas". I finally started listening. When I chant along with Swami or Shree Maa while playing the MP3, I get an almost overwhelming upsurge of energy. It is sometimes so overwhelming that I think I have to stop or do something else.Peace,Shankari KaliChris Kirner <chriskirner1956 wrote: Hey Y'All! Hi Shankari Kali,

I got the camphor in a little local Indian grocery store. They don't

carry much in the way of puja supplies, but they did stock a few of

these interesting little puja kits. A bright red, shiny box with a

picture of Durga on it (I got the Durga one), and a bunch of writing

in Hindi I could not understand. When I opened it up, it was, I

imagine, a little like visiting a temple, the mixture of incense and

perfume for the offering, both very sweet and strong, was

other-worldly. It had a little booklet with a couple more pictures of

Durga, and a short puja written on it (in Hindi). There were little

" samples " of betel nut, rock candy, ganga water, sandlewood powder,

sindur, incense, perfume, and camphor, along with some sacred thread,

a red cloth with gold fringe, some cotton wicks, and a small rough,

red clay bowl for use as a lamp. It was pretty cool, except that

everything, and I mean everything, was absolutely permeated with the

smell of the incense combined with the perfume (even the betel nut and

the rock candy - even the little plastic ziploc bags they were

packaged in).

There used to be a really good little Indian store over in your neck

of the woods. We only visited once, a long time ago now, so I don't

know if it's still there, but I bet it is. Check the phone book. You

may find they carry some items for puja!

As far as a statue goes, you don't need to have anything but yourself

and your Chandi, but if you have the skill and the time, you could

make a statue out of straw and mud. I have a picture of Chandi that

takes the place of a murti. Actually it is a close-up of the head of

the Devi Mandir's Chandi Devi that Shree Maa made. You can see it here:
