Shree Chandi Maa and the Temple of Doom

When I arrived in India, I made a sankalpa to chant at least 3 chapters

of the Chandi Patah every day. It works out best for me to do this at

night in quiet corner of the veranda. One night I heard some scurrying

noises all around me as I was chanting. I looked around and was shocked

to see that I was surrounded by at least a dozen 2-3 " giant cockroaches

swarming around me. I couldn't believe such monster bugs even existed.

It was like a scene from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I felt I

was being assailed by Mahisasura and his entire army of demons. But I

remembered I was not supposed to leave my asan until I completed my

chanting. So I continued on until I was done, then leapt up and ran

from the scene.

I understood that one's resolve is sometimes tested, so the next night

I thought about Shree Durga Maa's lion of courage as I cautiously went

back to my asan for another session. This time only a single monster

cockroach appeared. But he sat directly in front of me the entire time

I chanted, as if he were listening to every word. When I finished, he

scurried off. I had a feeling he was pleased, and I actually became

rather fond of him as well. Since that night, not a single giant

cockroach has bothered me. Jaya Shree Chandi Maa ki jai!

May the Goddess bless you on your journey.I really enjoy reading these reports back from India. It really makes me want to go to India. It seems that India is filled with more energy, and more subtle divine essence. I'm not quite sure how to describe it. When we lived in Thailand, it seemed to teem with a certain type of energy. Any prayers or any rituals seems to impact me and everything around me times ten.I loved this story. I have been surprised by cockroaches more times than I care to remember! ;)Peace,Shankari Kalianiruddhan <aniruddhan wrote: When I arrived in India, I made a sankalpa to chant at least 3 chapters of the Chandi Patah every day. Namaste Aniruddhan,

this is absolutely wonderful! In my mind's eye I can just see the Lord

of Cockroaches, sitting there quietly, listening intently to your

recitation, and, after having gone home satisfied, telling his family

that you are indeed a devotee of Divine Mother and not to bother you

anymore:)

thank you for sharing,

with love,

Henny

Aniruddhan, namaskara,

Nice little monster story...brings back my experience with a Scorpion in Arizona; directly at my feet, as I was in meditation. I think I was suppose to move, because he was not going around me, that's for sure. I think he wanted to travel up my pant leg, like in Gulliever's Trail story, (I think that's how it's spelled), but they nailed him down. For me, I felt at the time, that needed to come out of meditation at that particular time, as I felt that I should, not relaizing that the Scorpion was right in front of me. It was the perfect time, indeed! I got a stick, and tried to move him several time, but to no avail. So, he won...I got up and left.

ps/Happy trails to you...

Edward, the Scorpion king, sort of....
