Guest guest
I would like to get flowers for puja from my own garden. I have several areas that need to be replanted because of last winter's freeze. Can anyone please reccomend some good flowering plants for puja? Jai Maa! Guest guest
Hi Rolf, Roses - because of their fragrance and beauty (Maa loves them for puja) Marigolds -- their color (Maa loves them for puja) Gardenia - their fragrance (Maa ...) and Carnations -- they are durable - can be reused if you want . Just dunk them in water and take them out and they are good to be reused for the next puja. Hope this helps. Guest guest
One of the flowers frequently mentioned in many prayers and very common in South India is Nerium oleander or Nerium indicum. It is called Kasturi in Sanskrit and Arali in Tamil. The plant in South India is a big tree. We grow it in our house gardens. There are many varieties and I think it can be cultivated in U.S. You can see a photograph here. http://www.digital-photo-forum.com/photos/showphoto.php/photo/26000/cat/500/ppus\ er/2515 It is mentioned in this forum. You may be able to get the seeds. http://hortiplex.gardenweb.com/plants/p1/gw1027030.html We use it extensively in our Pujas in South India. The white and the Red varieties. Unfortunately we do not get it in Bengal. Please be warned that this is an Extremely Poisonous plant. Guest guest
in fact, i live in the us, in florida, and several oleanders live with me. i'm not sure what zones they can survive in, but here they need little care, and are popular. donnaSankar Viswanathan <sankarrukku wrote: One of the flowers frequently mentioned in many prayers and verycommon in South India is Nerium oleander or Nerium indicum. It is called Kasturi in Sanskrit and Arali in Tamil.
