Guest guest
NAMASTE ROLF: I agree that sitting in a quiet place is best for doing the UPC , or any other mantra or meditation , etc. Giving the gift of that private time to oneself is important in order to establish a discipline one wants to follow, rather than feeling obliged to follow. It is so difficult to train oneself to look beyond the gross attractions of the world. So many impulses pull our attention here and there. Having a sacred space in one's home, one automatically begins to settle down just entering the area. Then, the time spent begins to have greater meaning and one begins to look forward to the process. I have an altar in my bedroom, and a comfortable blanket to sit upon. Beautiful images of Maa and Swami and Shiva, and Durga, etc., sit upon it. Just sitting there, the eyes gazing on these images of the Divine, the world begins to loose its power over me, and for the time I sit, I do not pay attention to it. I do not answer if someone calls me, or answer the phone, or get up to stretch. I control what I can control, keeping my knees on the floor, and perform the mantra as best as I can. God does the rest.
