Guest guest
Namaste:I was wondering if anyone knows about the states of consciousness written about in the Vedas. I was listening to someone who mentioned these states of consciousness. One of these states of consciousness is the most basic in which the person is completely focused on him/herself, and then there is a next step and on and on. I was wondering if anything is written about this on the website. Thanks,Shankari Kali Be a better Heartthrob. Get better relationship answers from someone who knows. Answers - Check it out. Guest guest
Sounds to me like you're looking for a Vedic developmental structure (ages and stages theory). Actually, I have heard of a little-known and rare Tantric (I think) scripture that fully presents a schema for personality development from an authoritative spiritual perspective, but I have only heard mention of it once, in Sanskrit, in a library somewhere in India. Beyond that, I have seen that various scriptures discuss the development of consciousness in various ways, depending on the needs of the teaching, but never in a really systematic fashion with the focus on the psychology of the personality. Guest guest
Namaste Chris:Not really psychology per se, or if it is it would be like Maslow's hierarchy of needs/development. What I was really looking for was a spiritual focus or way of looking at things. I think Vish posted something along this line. I guess I need it broken down into something I can understand a little better.Peace,ShankariChris Kirner <chriskirner1956 wrote: Sounds to me like you're looking for a Vedic developmental structure (ages and stages theory). Guest guest
Hi Shankari, I'm still not sure exactly what you're looking for, but if it's something along the lines of what Vish posted, from the texts I'm familiar with at the Devi Mandir, The Guru and the Goddess probably comes the closest. It has a good, though fairly brief, discussion of the thirty-six tattvas, describes the five sheaths, both from the perspective of body, energy, mind, etc., but also from the persective of shabda, or sound, and it discusses a bunch of other issues related to spiritual development. That's in the Kashyapa Sutras. Hope you find what you need... Jai Maa! Guest guest
Namaste Chris:Sorry to be so confusing. I'll try to explain it a little better. I was watching a video of a certain speaker. He mentioned the Vedic levels of consciousness. These would be like ever expanding levels of consciousness. For example, we begin mostly focused on I or me. Everything is about me. I am completely motivated only by what affects me. Then the consciousness opens a bit and I begin to have some compassion for other. Sometimes I step out and do something for someone else without motivations. Next I may be able to shut the me-mongering off for a bit to completely be involved with other for a bit and so on until one reaches cosmic consciousness. It's kind of a way to check and see how we are doing in the consciousness shift process. It's like a process of paradigm shifts. It's Vedic, and I don't know if it is written in the scriptures or where. The Vedic scriptures are so vast that it would take quite a number of years to even get familiar with all of them. I was hoping one of the sadhus at Devi Mandir would be able to help me out. ;)peace, shankari Luggage? GPS? Comic books? Check out fitting gifts for grads at Search. Guest guest
Yeah, I had a suspicion this is what you were after. The text I mentioned in my first post is the only one I have heard tell of that deals with this subject in a systematic manner, and I heard it only second hand (it was mentioned in a book on development and the chakra system). Swamiji, as always, tends toward the essence of an issue, to create a bhaava, I think. He says that one can judge one's development by whether she is giving more than she is taking. It's not very sophisticated, but it is the central proof of spiritual life. In my own experience I have not been able to see much differentiated awareness from the individual chakras, as they are often discussed a separate paradigms of reality. Though I believe it's true that they are, I have not, at least in a way I could recognize, experienced them that way. Jai Maa!
