Namaste:

In the Advance Shiva Puja, and The Chandi, and several other

scriptures, We light and offer the burning camphor, circling it around

the diety in a clockwise motion, as we chant the verse for camphor.

This is after the verses for the " light " , where we offer a burning

candle, and the incense.

One could also offer it during AGNIR JYOTHIR, ETC..

Regarding the cleansing of the mouth and hands, we can either use a

spoon and dip it into our water pot, and then sip from it 3 times,

saying On Vishnu each time, then, pour more water on the hands and

wash them, and dry with a cloth. NOTE: once you touch the spoon to

your lips, you cannot put it into your water pot again as you will

make the water in it impure.

Or, you can pour water into the cupped palm of your right hand, and

sip it 3 times, then pour more water onto your hand, wash both hands,

and dry them off with a cloth.

Regarding the aarti lamp, at the Mandir, we make little wicks of

cotton and ghee, and twist one end into a wick and the other into a

small round shape, and put the round end into the lamp, then, we put a

little bit of loose camphor on the end of the wick so it will light

easily. Then it is lit from the eternally burning oil fired light in

front of the altar at the Temple. We do not use a lighter.

Now, for all practical purposes, you have to adapt these instructions

to fit the needs of your surroundings. For example, you may not have

an eternally burning lamp at your altar, and you have to use a match

to light the aarti lamp.

Or, you may like the smell of camphor and ghee and use them together.

Regarding ringing the bell during chanting of the Chandi, Maa usually

rings the bell with Her right hand during the last 1-2 verses of each

chapter. Sometimes, at the beginning of each chapter too.

Check this out during the group Chandi this sunday, 9:30 am Pacific

time, live, on-line, at www.shreemaa.org

Hope this helps. If you need more data, let me know
