Guest guest
By MAA's grace the monthly CHANDI Parayana concluded today. I was able to get a lot of flowers today and was able to offer them to MAA. When I was offering the flowers, I remembered that Eric had asked a question about flowers. Though Vishweshwar had answered the question, I would like to answer that specifically with reference to CHANDI PATH. Though the book specifically mentions " Ete gandhapushpe " only in a few places, you can offer flowers in many instances. In the beginning we start with " Sri ManMahaganadhipataye namah " . Whereever the word Namah comes we can offer flowers. This way you offer flowers to all the Gods and Goddesses like your Ishta Devata, Kula Devata, Grama Devata and others. If you do not have these identified, you can offer all these flowers to MAA. Later Sri Gurubyo Namah is mentioned. This is an opportunity to offer flowers to our Guru, Parama Guru, Parapara Guru, Parameshti Guru. If you do not have all these Swamiji is the GURU. The flowers are to be placed at the feet of MAA, other Devatas and Guru. Flowers are always placed at the feet of the statue or photograph. At times we do place it in the hand and other places (if you have a statue). This is only to give a special effect. We do place the flowers to make MAA look beautiful. As Chris mentioned earlier I love flowers. I love flowers because I can offer them to MAA. I feel very happy only when I am able to offer beautiful flowers to MAA. About ringing the Bell, normally Bells are rung during the Deepa Aradhana viz. Dhupa, Deepa, and Aarti. But there is no hard and fast rule. But simultaneously ringing the bell, chanting the Mantra and waving the Deepa requires some practice. So counting the days till the next Monthly Parayana. Jai MAA !!! Guest guest
Hi Sankarji, I recall very clearly, more that twenty years ago now, while working aboard ship and spending four hours every day alone, above the bridge in the open air, looking out on the vastness of the surging ocean, beautiful and full of life, but nevertheless a desert to those creatures not meant to live there. I was just learning about the sanatana dharma, experimenting with meditation, pranayama, and yoga asanas, and thinking a lot about God, Guru, and the meaning and purpose of life. It came to me one day up there on the flying bridge, amidst the bareness of the sea, how uniquely beautiful and wonderful flowers are. I saw that they must be an expression of God's love for all who are capable of appreciating beauty, for what is more expressive of Beauty on this earth than a flower? Scientists would have us believe that the flower's beauty is an accident of nature, but this is nothing but sophistry to me. There is almost no place on the land that does not have its flowers. It is as if God is saying, " See! I am here, and I love you. " Flowers are God's gift of beauty to us. Even the meanest weed growing through the smallest crack in the pavement of the dirtiest, poorest city, has an exquisitely beautiful flower - even if it is perhaps too small to notice. All over this world there are flowers pushing themselves through the most difficult obstacles, just so they can sweetly bear their delicate petals, for a day or two, or even just a single night, to a universe in need of beauty and love. Guest guest
Thank you both for sharing your love of flowers. It made flowers bloom in my heart just to read these two posts! : ) It also reminded me of a day not too long ago, when I was walking through a beautiful flower garden in a park with a little girl who was not quite three. She was running to each bloom, taking it carefully in her hand and holding it out to me, saying " Jennifer, look at THIS one! Look at the yellow ones! Look at the orange ones! Jennifer, LOOK at THIS one! Smell this red one! " This went on for quite some time. Her delight was tangible. A picture of pure devotion, inspired by the beauty of flowers.
