It is not just on a verbal level, but we know verbally and non-verbally. It means something to us. In fact it means a lot to us. And not just to us. But anyone who hears what we are saying will also be able to understand at least on some level the meaning of our prayer. They will know that we are praying, and may feel moved to pray themselves.
