Guest guest
Dear Holy Family, Regardless of the multitude of varied sadhanas available for aspirants to practice, there are really only two standpoints, or asanas, one can take for spiritual practice. One either accepts that one is in the dream, or denies the dream wholesale. Brahman Deaming the Dream, and acting within the Dream, we call Mother; Brahaman eternally beyond the Dream is Shiva. The first corresponds with our experience and is easy to understand. The second is beyond understanding. Sri Ramarishna illustrated it with an example: " If there are 10 clay pots filled with water reflecting the sun, how many " suns " are there? " Answer, 10 reflected suns, plus the real sun above. " True, now if you break one pot, how many suns do you have? " . Answer, 9 suns plus the real sun. True, now if you break another pot how many suns? " Answer, 8 suns, plus the real sun. [this line of questioning continues to the last pot.] " Now, if you break the last pot how many suns are there? " Answer, only the real Sun. Sri Ramakrishna, " Not correct. What remains is impossible to know or speak of. " This is the experience of the non-dualists. They don't see Mother's Dream, and aspirants also deny that it exists and practice accordingly. Therefore, Sri Ramakrishna taught that it is more appropriate, and practical, for aspirants in this age to accept Mother's Dream, and to relate to Her as Brahmamayi, Brahman within the Dream. It is particularly auspicious that Mother has come to the West and established Her Presence and Power here in our culture. It means that we can have no lingering doubt that She belongs to us; She is not borrowed from another culture and language group. She speaks our language and understands our particular traits and problems. It is true enough that the mantras and holy texts in the sanskrit language have the accumulated Power of thousands of years of tradition. But we can assume that She now speaks English as well, and so we can also speak directly to Her at any moment (even every moment) of the day. One can simply exchange the habitual stream-of-consciousness thinking (compulsive talking to oneself) for a running conversation with the Mother of the universe throughout the day. Or one can simply rest quietly as " I love You Mother " in the Heart. With Respect, Tanmaya
