Guest guest
Namaste Eric: It is important to take the advice of a qualified teacher you trust, and work with them. If you have faith in your teacher, and you receive conflicting advice, you have 2 choices: ignore it, or, carefully analyze, and / or practice each, then make an informed choice. I suggest you check out the Cosmic puja class which is stored on the Mandir web site. In that class, Swami teaches us how to perform the technique. I cannot comment on how others teach or practice chakra meditation, but, I can assure you that Swami's teaching is clear and when practiced the way he teaches it, the technique is very powerful and balancing. After performing the technique daily for several years, I feel more in control of the energy flow in my spinal column, and if the energy does become unbalanced, I am in tune with it and can redirect it to correct the imbalance. When one practices the technique, one starts at the base of the spine, and with one's attention on the base chakra, one repeats the mantra for that charka 16 times, eyes closed, with the spinckter muscle slightly clenched. Then one moves ones' attention up to the next chakra, and repeats that mantra 16 times while keeping the spinckter clenched, and tightening the area of the next chakra- while repeating that mantra 16 times. One moves up the spine, till one comes crown chakra. Then, one moves the energy and ones' attention back down the spine, repeating each mantra for each chakra 1 time till one gets to the base of the spine. Then, one repeats OM, and moves the attention from the base to the crown, thru each chakra, stopping at the crown. It takes some time getting used to clenching or tightening each chakra area while repeating the mantra and counting 16 times, but, one does move into the practice and soon it becomes automatic. it helps to memorize the mantras and their position. This makes the practice grow more smoothly.
