Guest guest
Namaste: Swami says that the kundalini is always awake and moving. If it was not, we would be dead. The notion of awakening it is a figure of speech, poetic license. Chanting the Chandi helps eliminate the ego. By discipling ourselves to sit still, control our breathing, and chant the verses, we put ourselves in the place where Chandi, " She who tears apart thought " , can destroy the Great Ego and his army of thoughts. Contact with a realized Master, has tremendous purifying effect and helps a devotee observe how the Great Ones function on this Earth. Guest guest
Hi Vish (and Shankari), I have heard this slant on kundalini awakening before. It is certainly true, but I think it also begs the question. Kundalini is certainly awake in all of life, but I believe there is also an awakening, or if you will, a time of vastly increased flow and power. My belief is that the initial awakening of kundalini in force is described in the Chandi as the advent of Kali. Her every act is powerful, forceful, dramatic, and spiritually intoxicated - She is a force of loud, irresistible vibrations, buzzings and hums and powerful bells, always seeming at the very edge of chaos. She destroys every obstacle and devours every desire by sheer overwhelming power. Swamiji may downplay the awakening because in this path it is not the main focus of the sadhana - devotion is (or so it seems to me). If one follows this path, and especially chanting the Chandi Path, I believe that kundalini will awaken as a result, just as Kali mainfests at the behest of Mahalakshmi, devouring all of our desires, passions, and establishing the rule of the pure within us. Guest guest
Namaste Chris: That was an excellent, insightful post. I think that the Chandi Path causes a deep awakening of the kundalini or the goddess within. The scriptures state that the recitation of them causes the Goddess to manifest. I believe that the scripture has layer upon layer of meaning that draws one deeper and deeper into the awakening process. Some of this causes things to happen that might be misunderstood by the practitioner and may cause fear. I myself find myself wrestling with myself when attempting to do anything with Maha Kali. Now we are studying the Kali Puja, and I find myself having dreams warning me about Maha Kali. I believe that the karmic layers within me fear the process and produce the dreams. Jai Maa!
