Guest guest
Namaste Group: I was wondering if today is an auspicious day to perform the full Kali Puja. I was also wondering if amavasya tithi occurs monthly. Thanks, Shankari Kali
Guest guest
Hi Shankari, I'm sure someone has already answered your post, and is just VERY late posting again, but just in case... Amavasya was yesterday, Monday (actually the day before yesterday, as I write this). Amavasya is the dark of the moon (the New Moon), and yes, it marks the end of every month in the Hindu calendar, which is, after all, a lunar calendar. In the Hindu (I think it's actually called the Vedic calendar) every month begins with the first day following Amavasya, and Purnima, the full moon, falls in the middle. Amavasya is considered an auspicious time to worship Kali. Maa suggested earlier this year that everyone recite the Thousand Names of Kali every Amavasya, but Kali puja is good too, I think. Jai Maa! Guest guest
Actually, Amavasya was yesterday (September 11), at least in the Pacific Daylight Time zone, though it was very early in the morning (at about 5 a.m.). shanti! -sundari On 9/12/07, Chris Kirner <chriskirner1956 wrote: Hi Shankari,I'm sure someone has already answered your post, and is justVERY late posting again, but just in case...Amavasya was yesterday, Monday (actually the day before yesterday, as I write this). Guest guest
Namaste Shankariji, Howare you? Following on Chrisji's reply - in the 108 names of Goddess Kali vs 30 and 31 reads: "Whoever will worship on the Tuesday night of the New moon offering the five principles to the Great Foremost She Who Takes Away the Darkness, the Supreme Goddess of the Three Worlds and recite these one hundred names actually becomes the manifestation of She Who Takes Away the Darkness, and knows no obstacles from anywhere in the three worlds." I do not recall amavasya falling on a Tuesday yet this year but like Chris said, it is always a good time to worship Mother. This post might also be useful to you /message/21579. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Namaste Group: Thanks you for your help. Ironically my fire alarm went off three times on Amavasya Tithi between about 4:30 and 5:30. Luckily there was no fire or smoke or anything. For some weird reason I decided to fast that day. I recited the 108 names of Ganesha, and the 1008 names of Kali. Later in the day and I found out what day it was and performed the Kali puja we just learned. Shree Maa suggests that we recite the Vishnu Sahasranam on Ekadashi? Where do we get this text? Also about Ganesha Chaturthi what should we do? Should we recite the Ganesha Sahasranam? Where do we get that text? Thanks group, Shankari Kali , " kaliananda_saraswati " <kaliananda_saraswati wrote: > > > Namaste Shankariji, > > Howare you? Guest guest
Namaste Kali, Not sure if your questions were anaswered before but the Vishnu Sahasranam can be found in the Visnu Puja Thousand names of Visnu. The Ganesyatharvasirsam can be found in the Advanced Shiva puja or the Ganesa puja books which are all publications of the Devi Mandir.
