Guest guest
Hi Alex,Thanks for your post. You asked:> 1) As I understand Devi Mahatmyam (Chandi path) is 700 verses. Answer -- The 700 verses are the core of the Chandi and are derived from the Markandeya Purana. I will check with Swamiji on the origin of the other chapters and post. > 2) Which verses should be used before and after reciting chapters and > their purpose. Answer : -- When you are trying to learn the Chandi, you can chant one or more chapters at a time to get comfortable with the text. But if you want to do one recitation of the text, the shortest recommended is the Seedha Path aka the straight pathIn summary, here are the chapters to to the Seedha Path - you will find these chapters in the Table of Contents at the beginning of the book. The page numbers vary in different versions 1) Kushandika - Starting from the first verse in the book "sriman mahaganadhipataye namah" to a few pages and ending with the shanti mantras "om shanti shanti shanti". These are the introductory mantras to any recitation 2) Vedic Praise to the Night of Duality - RgVedoktam Ratri Suktam 3) Navarna Vidhi - The system of Worship of the Nine Lettered Mantra 4) The 13 core chapters (700 verses)5) Navarna Vidhi - The system of Worship of the Nine Lettered Mantra 6) Vedic Praise to the Goddess who is Unity - RgVedoktam Devi Suktam 7) Siddha Kunjika Stotram - The Song that gives the key to perfection 8) Pranamah (the last page).-Bowing down in devotion> 3) Since I am beginner should I not recite verses with pranayama > (inhale Navarna mantra and on exhalation chant verses) or it would be > good to start with that immediately.Answer -- I will check with Swamiji and post.ThanksNanda
Guest guest
Thank you Shankari and Nanda in answering my questions and asking Swamiji. I am really sorry for my misunderstanding, but I am still not sure what and when I can recite from Chandi Path (my 2nd question). Nanda, when you talk about Seedha Path recitation, you mean doing it in all in one day or Seedha Path is broken in couple of days? If reciting Seedha Path should be done in one day (I can do that once per week), what can I recite during other days where my time is limited (maybe chapter or two at a time and other mantras)? Is it my own call what to recite from Chandi when my time is limited, maybe there some rules what should never be done and what should always be done? I appreciate your responses. Thank you very much. Alex. , " Nanda " <chandimaakijai wrote: > > Hi Alex, > Thanks for your post. > > You asked: > > 1) As I understand Devi Mahatmyam (Chandi path) is 700 verses. Guest guest
Namaste Alex, i will add my two cents here... Once you learn and feel comfortable with reciting the Seedha Path, then it should be done in one day in one sitting. While you are still learning, you can split it up with one chapter a day, a week, whatever you need. Divine Mother is happy for your efforts. When you have limited time and a whole Chandi is not feasible, well, never fear..... there are thousands of other ways to show your devotion ( " cuz that's what it's all about now, isn't it). May i suggest that you take a look at our spiritual calendar at http://www.shreemaa.org/spiritualcalendar and see the many different texts you can chant/recite. try a simple Siva or Durga Puja, for example. Or 108 names of Ganesh (He's the One who will open the first doors for you) As Maa has told me several times:(and i paraphrase) " Don't force yourself into one way or another...follow your heart " Jaaaaaaaaaaaaai Maa , " Alex " <my3byk wrote: > > Thank you Shankari and Nanda in answering my questions and asking > Swamiji. Guest guest
Hi, Yes, you are right there are other ways I could show my devotion. I do japa every day, and time to time do Shiva puja. But I guess I could still recite something like Chandi armor on daily basis. For right now learning Chandi will take most of my time. I am almost done reading it in English, and then I am going to try learning proper pronunciation in Sanskrit. I plan to recite it slowly, not sure yet if with pranayama. Thank you. Guest guest
Hi Nanda, My cousin brother passed away this last weekend. His name is L. Sai Prasad. Can you add his name to the prayer club list so that he could get prayers for his support and well being whereever he is, provided it is something that can be done ? Thanks, Prasana.
