Guest guest
Dear Holy Family, While thinking of Swamiji's question of whether prayer or work is better, I remember that the Sanskrit term for our world is karma bhumi, the realm of karma or work. According to my understanding, our soul evolves when we make appropriate choices, and then do so. That is, our soul evolves by means of right action or work. It is not always clear what is the appropriate action to take. Arjuna had that difficulty in the Bhagavad Gita war. But Krishna corrected him by telling him that it was his duty to fight, even though it would cost thousands of lives. I believe that continuous prayer is necessary for correct choices leading to right actions, or efficient work. Because through prayer we are drawn closer to God thus allowing us to know God's will in every circumstance of life. Then we can act accordingly. Often, prayer is petitionary: " O God, please give me this, or that or do this or that for me. " With the understanding that our job is to try our best to know God's will first and then to act on that knowledge; i.e. to work. I would say that the highest prayer is: " Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven " .
