Guest guest
Namaste Lillian: Shiva worship is great. He is the CONSCIOUSNESS OF INFINITE GOODNESS, so his blessings are infinitely good. It is so true that there is much mis-information and confusion in this world. We are so blessed to be able to connect with 2 realized Masters, Maa and Swami, in order to have direct communication and clear answers to our questions. A short personal story to demonstrate how they helped be in my early days of practice of Shiva puja. While on a cross country tour of America in 1997, they stopped in our small Iowa town for satsunga. They taught a large class how to perform Shiva puja. I was present, and returned home and established a small altar in my living room and began to perform puja. There was no one else to turn to, so I tried my best, reading the English for some months, and performing the offerings to a small picture of Shiva. After some time, another devotee told me that if one is a householder, one should not worship Shiva as he will take away everything. He should only be worshipped by unmarried devotees, who had renounced the world. Well, that really shook me. We did not communicate with Maa and Swami using internet at that time, we had to phone and leave a message and someone would return a call with their reply. So, I left a message for Swami. His response: " Village poppycock, not true, worship of Shiva brings bliss and fulfillment. Do not take the word of those who have only partial knowledge, always ask for help from one who knows. " Now, after 10 years of worship of Shiva, I have experienced the TRUTH of his words a thousand times over. And with this club, many others have been helped by these 2 great souls. We all wish to help those who are serious about connecting with the Divine within us. Guest guest
Namaste, Thank you for your beautiful experience. The person whom told you householders should not worship Shiva was probably refering to certain 'mantras' or rituals devoted to certain aspects of Shiva. This is the problem with learning a lot of the eastern religions. There are so many views or ways of doing things: depending on section of the country the person is in,village worship vs. worship by those outside of villages, and the list goes on. I love Shiva and have studied him for a few years or so: I just haven't did a formal puja for him. Shiva is everything and everything is within him. Shiva is the perfect meditator (loner etc) Shiva is also a householder etc. So many take different views on how to worshp him. It's all very confusing this is why I turned to this group: to straighten it all out.
