Guest guest
Dearest Everyone, I was reflecting today on last year's (it feels so strange to say that!) peace sankalpa. It's the first sankalpa ever that I had taken, and chanting a mantra was entirely new to me, and I didn't take it on until June. So by late fall, I realized that if I was going to be successful in completing it, I would have to start chanting during my work day. At first this seemed impossible for me because I work with young children and teachers. I have a preschool in my home that operates 50 hours a week, so my work schedule is packed! But one day I was outside with about eight children. I looked around and thought (skeptically), well, maybe they will just play amongst themselves peacefully while I go over here and cut down some dead goldenrod and chant this mantra. Guess I better try it. I went over to the flower garden, started clearing out the goldenrod stalks and chanting. Then behind me I heard two little voices: " Can I help you? " " Can I help you? " I turned around and there were two of my four year old students, standing there sweetly. " I like to help people " the first one said. The second nodded her head: " Me too. " " Sure " , I said " That would be great, if we all work together, we can get this job done faster. " So I started handing them the goldenrod stalks to carry to the garden. Soon, there was a little line up of preschoolers, carrying the cuttings away, (and having fun doing it) while I chanted peacefully in my mind. It was a real lesson for me in having faith that the peaceful presence of the mantra can create a harmonious experience for everyone. From that day on, I found many other little pockets of time for that beautiful mantra, and it helped me to be the teacher I want to be for these little ones. I am excited about a new year of learning with these new sankalpas. May we all know Divine Mother's peace! Jennifer
