Guest guest
Eric asked: Are there specific mudras, symbolic gestures or physical actions intended to accompany the chanting of Kavach as you seem to allude to in the recent reply? Is it sufficient to chant the mantras and visualize without doing physical gestures if one has not received instruction? Dear Eric, I am not aware of any specific mudras to use. When pointing to different parts of the body, in general, I have noticed that Swamiji, when doing the Anga Nyasa, uses the tattwa mudra: Fold the thumb and place at at the base of the ring finger In general pointing to different parts of the body helps us to chant with more bhava as we understand what we are doing. However, if you are absorbed in the chant, you may want to keep the body still. I look forward to other responses. Chris asked: Why are the Nine Durgas listed here, and what are we to get from their mention here? Are they intended as signposts for our sadhana? If that is so, then why are the descriptions so terse? Do they relate to what occurs in the main text? Are they a kind of table of contents to what happens later? Chris, I know that Swamiji frequently emphasises the Nava Durgas as a guideline for our spiritual evolution. They can be used as signposts for any activity that involves learning.
