Guest guest
Dear Devi Mandir All, Some further reflections on practicing the kavacham. This message may be rather repulsive for some, but someone might have such an issue occur in the course of their life so this information is shared hopefully that someone here might be able to benefit, may even be having a similar problem. A key phrase in the Kavacham, I don't have the book with me so I can't directly quote, is that regular recitation results in being free from all infections, such as those produced from cuts, and may even imply infectious microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria, yeasts (parasitic fungi). The Kavacham involves invoking the Light of the Goddess to permeate ones 5 sheaths. This light force in Ayurveda is referred to as Ojas, the life-sap, the density and intensity of which is a key barometer of our health. Could the principle immunity the Kavacham allegedly provides result from preserving the loss, and restoring the vitality of one's Ojas? This thought occured to me, as I have been depleted of Ojas, staying up very late hours, 'burning the midnight oil' to study due to lack of organisation, many counter productive dietary habits of subsisting on bad quality nourishment in addition to other life sapping ordeals of the holiday season. Such over-doing (rajas), and lack of rest resulted in a terrible flu such as I have never witnessed in years with extremely high temperatures, and caused numerous problems. Even after weeks of attempted rest, the immunity has not been fully restored. A key indicator that the immune system was not optimally functioning was a thick white coating all over my tongue along with large raised red blisters at the back of the tongue. In western medicine this is known as " thrush,' and 'geographic tongue,' the result of a systemic overgrowth of yeasts(fungi) and infection of epithelial (skin) cells. In Ayurveda, this is a sign of ama or internal toxicity (as a result of pathogenic micro-organisms), due to bad dietary habits, resulting in a dirty colon, and reabsorption of this ama into the tissues. This sign from my body was a very welcome marker of my immunity, an explanation for why I still have not regained my full vitality and strength. It also caused me to contemplate the causes of this infection, what diseased words had I spoken, that was nourishing this type of growth and weakness? I realised I had indeed spoken hurtful words and as I result began to ask for forgiveness. In browsing through my references on herbal medecine and Ayurveda, I was reminded of the power of Triphala, the three great fruits, Amalaki(Chebulic Myrobalan, Amla), Bibhitaki(beleric myrobalan) and Haritaki (Embelic Myrobalan, Harad), and their ability to scour the colon of toxins and microorganisms. I began to drink this liquid. I then came across an article about the issue on the internet that suggest using cayenne pepper to cleanse the mucous membranes of the tongue from yeast. I know that Indian Mom's sometimes like to dust their children's tongues when they have uttered inappropriate words as a form of good old fashioned negative reinforcement, just as Western Mom's are often prone to do with soap , so Im not suggesting anyone else try this, but I put a teaspoon of the fresh organic ground pepper and smeared it all over my tongue and waited 20 minutes while mentally doing Kavacham, and prayed to protected from uttering such words. After spitting out the fire layers of mucous were removed from the tongue and 90% of the yeasts were removed. The Chilli penance apparently works I ingested some as well to clear rest of infection from my body, that works too. The cayenne pepper is doing an Ama barbecue on the inside....this should not be done by everyone, because you might have enough heat of your own. However, Triphala is very safe and beneficial. With Love, Jai Maa Eric ______________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Guest guest
I hope you get free of this very soon, Eric. My history with influenza sounds very much like yours - if I get it it's usually a very bad case and lasts for weeks. Jai Maa! Guest guest
Thanks Chris! With Kavacham, and some compassionate awareness, along with a goad to discipline the changing mind, and last but not least pure Divine Grace all must go well. I came down with flu attempting to complete my sankalpa when all of a sudden I got the chills and realised a few hours later after checking with a thermometer I was running a fever of 104. So now, like you Im finishing off last years Sankalpa. So we are in the same boat, 'all in this together.' Jai Maa and Jai Swami!
