Namaste Vish and All Devas and Devis of Devi Mandir.

What you have reported about Swami's statement seems

really poignant. Yesterday I was reading Pantanjali,

and the first sentence is:

yogaschittavrittinirodhah. So succinct in Sanskrit,

but in English roughly: Unity with the Divine occurs

through ending the modifications of our

consciousness(mind).

What causes our minds to fluctuate are our past

memories. Every time we get irritated by an apparent

problem, it's our conscious mind receiving an

impression, a previous experience from the

subconscious mind.

The subconscious mind is littered with memories, and

plays these tapes back to the conscious mind because

it wants help to in union with the Divine, it wants to

know Divinity, but how can it with all these memories

assailing it?

The conscious mind starts to vacillate in grief,

anger, fear, sadness, or joy upon awareness of the

memory. We have a volitile reaction of 'Oh poor me,

and so and so and such and such is to blame' and we

relive the memory as the experience of the problem all

over again. We become more and more frustrated with

life. We feel misery and project our woes onto

ourselves and others. The situation worsens.

At the conscious level, We don't know what the source

of the problem is, we just think it's happening to us,

we don't realise the cause, that's why it's

subconscious. The subconscious thinks it can manage

and cope with everything that happens, even when it

doesn't have a clue. We don't have to know either, we

have the choice to do Kavacham and Chandi, or the

choice to be tortured by our memories (if that can be

termed a choice ;) )

Who's really in Charge? Only Maa, and she is the one

who can send her Shakthi to transmute our

modifications, obscurations, misunderstandings, and

problems. So we must Kleen! Kleen! Kleen! to be free

of problems, memories, unpleasant modifications,

caused by our own thoughts. Thanks for helping me

clarify this further in my own understanding.

Jai Maa! Jai Swami!

Eric
