Guest guest
Namaste I have been using a tambura to help me with the beat while chanting Sharangata Deenaarta and a few others (yeh Devi etc). Is this okay? or should I just use the breath. I have started on the Chandi now and are loving it. Blessings in Love Brindavanshakti Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Guest guest
Namaste Brindavanshakti, You are using a tambura to help you keep the rhythm? Do you mean the key/pitch? Because I thought normally tambura is used to keep your pitch or tonality even and pure, and is not normally used as a rhythmic device (though it does alternate between two notes Sa and PA in a way that could be perceived as rhythmic. In any case, I can't answer if it's okay, but I know Maa uses a drone on her recordings at times. And when I was learning Carnatic music, we always practice with a drone. I have kept this practice up. I use only special notes tuned to the oscillation of the Earth's magnetic field. Yes it may sound ridiculously new age. However, this frequency helps me keep my voice in tune and I like to do pujas and homas with the drone too.
