Guest guest
Namaste: Maa has said when thoughts come which do not further our goals that we should say to ourselves: " these are not my thoughts, go away " . Swami has said: " when you realize you have become absorbed in a thought you do not want, then immediately repeat a mantra " . On Page 38 of THE GURU AND THE GODDESS, Swami states: " now, when you have a stimulus,{thought you do not like} and you are ready to respond, {or act upon it}, use a mantra to take away your mind. Take a breath and put a mantra with your breath. Hold it for a moment and then say the mantra again. Get yourself clear on your objectives, your motivations, and your methods.... " Also, in the Kasyapa sutras, from the book : THE GURU AND THE GODDESS, Swami has taught us the technique of substituting a bija, or seed mantra, of a " positive " emotion for a " negative " one, whenever we realize we have slipped into a old behavior or thought pattern. Again on Page 38, Swami tells us to identify the bija mantra that corresponds to the negative emotion, and repeat it for 1 mala. This will help us to get control of the emotion. Then, identify the attitude you wish to replace it with, and repeat that bija mantra for 1 mala. For example, most of us have thoughts and emotions we do not want, based on confusion. So, repeat the mantra for confusion: BHRAM, for 1 mala, then, replace it with the mantra for peace: SAM, and repeat it 1 mala. In this way we watch confusion transforming into peace for the duration of at least 1 mala. Try and see how this works, and let's have further discussion. When we have a choice, think a mantra. I believe this is one reason that Maa gives us the sankalpa of repeating a certain mantra daily. She wants us to cultivate a new habit, a healthy habit: focusing on the mantra instead of random thoughts. Guest guest
Dear Vishweshwar, I have been meaning to try this practice for a while and your post has inspired me to do it now! I'm experiencing some distress in a relationship with a person that I love very much at this time, and so I have chosen a 'negative emotion' seed mantra that matches that distress, and the positive quality mantra that I am hoping to see it transform into. I have made a little card with both of them and put it on my altar, and will try one mala round a day this week. Thank you so much for sharing this reminder of this beautiful and effective practice! Just thinking about doing it helps me to release the distress into Divine Mother's transformational love. Guest guest
Thanks Vishweshwar for this reminder. It is amazing how being caught up with the day to day activities can make us forget what is really important in our lives. Since sharing the experience with the forum however, the mind seems more at peace. When the thought comes almost immediately i pick up my beads or find a picture of Maa or Swamiji to focus on and this has been such a tremendous help. Reminding of the bijas in the Kasyapa sutras, i will also apply them to the situation. Many thanks to all you kind souls. maadevi , " jrholm1007 " <jrholm1007 wrote: > > Dear Vishweshwar, I have been meaning to try this practice for a > while and your post has inspired me to do it now!
