Guest guest
Namaste Friends! As the 1008 Names of Kali were being recited at Devi Mandir last night, tornados were ripping across my area. 2 of them were headed directly at me, then veered off at the last minute. I was tuned in to the audio and recited Gayatris with Shree Maa, Swamiji and the devotees, the light came, my sky lit up. There was intense lighting and a gas pipline blew up, sending a 500 ft column of fire into the sky that could be seen 50 miles away. The first tornado passed my way just as the 1008 Names were beginning. As a precaution due to the close lightning, I got offline and shut down the computer, and tuned into the radio for weather updates. I don't have tv. I had the Sharanagata Mantra going inside and as the first tornado got closer, I switched to Mahamrtunjaya, hearing the announcer on the radio describe destruction all around me. This kind of thing happens often, I have seen lightning strike things as I drive by, 2 years ago on the 9th day of spring Navaratri, 20 minutes after completion of the Homa, a tornado flew almost directly over my head. I have been in the eye of a little hurricane and just missed by a big one. I have had many close encounters! So, I am sitting in my kitchen, in my doublewide, a known tornado attractor :-), in the middle of the woods with no safe shelter if the tornado makes a direct hit. Light and Death are swirling around me. Tornado #2 approaches. I greet Mother Kali with incense and flame, " Hail Mother! Hello! Thank you for Your Darshan! Please don't come any closer in your Tornadic Form! " And then, as always, I think, " What if I have prayed and recited mantras all these years to get Mother Kali's Darshan and this is it?! " " Will you turn Her away when She appears as a Storm and destroys your house? " If the tornado hits, this home and all its contents, the images in the shrine, musical instruments, clothes, dishes, all will be gone. Is any of it " mine " in the first place? If it all disappears and turns into a rubbish pile, what have I lost? Victory! Victory to the Mother who dwells in all beings in the form of Storm! I am yours! This house and all it contains are yours! You will do as you please! Victory! Victory to the Divine Mother who dwells in all beings in the form of Mantra! Blow this house down and the Mantra will remain! If I am to die in this storm, let this body depart as I chant the Holy Names! Let this Mahamrtunjaya, let this Sharanagata, let these mantras work across the land...your children are crying and dying, protect us from disaster and if that cannot be so, then bless us that we may have faith and devotion throughout all of life's storms! So, when the tornado approaches, I have the opportunity to " think like a Swami " , realizing that nothing is mine, everything could dissappear in a moment, but Mother, Shiva, Guru, the Divine, is always with me in the form of Mantra, and will remain for the rest of my days. The most amazing thing to me is that when the sun shines, I forget it all and once again become entangled in " I " and " mine " . And then there is another storm.:-) Devotees, please remember those who have suffered the effects of these severe storms in your prayers and mantras this week. Thank -you! Guest guest
This was great Leela,Thank you sharing. It's a keeper. When it hits here I'll be thinking of Mother and giggling at the same time thinking about your experience. NOT THAT THE EXPERIENCE IS FUNNY It's so close to home!!!!!!!!We all do it.What a lesson. It reminds me of what Swami said about Bad experiences being the class room and good ones the test. Will we remember Mother when everthing is coming up roses?I think so! Because we have Maa and Swami and they have taught us so much. All our lives have changed, for the best, thanks to their blessings.WOW you handled that storm so well. You are blessed.Devideviloka <deviloka wrote: Namaste Friends! Guest guest
namaste Leela! It is a great test of faith and you managed to pass the test!!! This is what pleases divine in every way. Not to praise him when things are favourable but do the same in unfavourable circumstances also. It is here that many lose faith and start drifting or start cursing the divine. But the Divine is full of mercy and accepts our faults and continues to support us. I liked the part where you mentioned " storm " is mother. She is maya (destructive and constructive force). My prayers are with all those who have been affected.
