Guest guest
Namaste all family: Maa and Swami speak regularly about the value of memorizing mantras. Swami says: ... " imagine you want to tell someone you love them. If you are reading the words with your eyes averted: I LOVE YOU, and looking up to tell your friend, then looking down at the book again to read further, you can imagine the effect upon your friend, and yourself: the connection and effect is weak. Now imagine looking your friend in the eye and stating with feelings of love and gratitude, I LOVE YOU. You and your friend are connected and experiencing the flow of love, and growing closer and closer. " Now, imagine you are doing puja, and reading from a text, looking down at the book. What if you could chant effortlessly, without the book, looking your deity in the eye? In that way, memorizing the mantras provides a devotee with the chance to grow closer and closer to their focus of worship. After reading the beginner Shiva puja for about 1 year, I put the book down, and chanted directly to Shiva on my altar. There was quite a difference. Since then, I have also memorized Durga puja, and continue to memorize other mantras. While it is not easy for me, I realize the value of it and work on it daily.
