I thought this was beautiful, so I am forwarding it here for all to enjoy!

JAI MAHADEV!!!

Surya

-

One day, a professor of a university decided to defy his pupils.

He asked : did God create everything that exists?

A student answered bravely: " yes, He did. "

- Everything? asked the teacher.

-Yes, everything. Was the answer of the student.

In this case, God also created evil, correct?

Because evil exists. - said the teacher.

To that, the student had no answer and remained silent.

The teacher was delighted at the opportunity to prove

one more time that faith was only a myth.

Suddenly, another student raised his hand and asked:

" May I ask you a question , professor? "

" Of course " , was the answer.

Does cold exist?

-Of course, answered the professor

Did you never feel cold?

" Actually, sir, cold does not exist.

According to studies in Physics,

cold is the total and complete absence of heat.

An object can only be studied if it has and transmits energy

and it is the heat of an object that transmits it's energy .

" Without heat, the objects are inert,

incapable to react. But cold does not exist.

We created the term cold to explain the lack of heat "

" And darkness? " , continues the student.

- " It exists " , replied the professor

" Again, you're wrong sir, darkness is the total absence of light.

You can study light and brightness, but not darkness.

The prism of Nichols shows the variety of different colors

in which the light can be decomposed according to the longitude of the waves.

Darkness is the term we created to explain the total absence of light "

And finally, the sudent asked:

" And evil, sir, does evil exist? "

God did not create evil.

Evil is the absence of God in people's hearts,

it is the absence of love, humanity and faith.

Love and faith are like heat and light. They exist.

Their absence lead to evil "

Now it was the professor's turn to remain silent..

The name of the student was :

ALBERT EINSTEIN

I definitely agree that evil is not anything we need to fear.

Certainly evil is something we create for ourselves. But, the

scriptures clearly state that at least some demons were angels that

Narayana had incarnated into demons in order to help Human Evolution.

So, from our human perspective these " evil " things are bad. But that

is only our limited human perspective. When we view these " evil "

beings or occurences from Ma's perspective, we see that they were

really angels in disguise trying to push us forward.

So, even though I agree with the major thrust of the story, I also

believe that things which we perceive to be evil are in fact created

by God to help us humans to evolve. The Devas don't like change, so

God creates demons to stir things up so that we humans will seek God

and evolve. So, although unpleasant, I believe " Evil " is necessary for

our growth.

Just my humble opinion.

Hi Y'all,

I wondered whether or not to reply to this even though I felt I had

something to say. It is very beautiful and I do not want to take away

from that. I will try not to detract.

I think that this is a very good description of the nature of evil in

Maya. However, I think it is important to remember that God is the

totality, including that which does not " exist " .

Want and pain are part and parcel, along with fulfillment and joy, of

this yatra (pilgrimage) we call life. Even if God cannot be said to

have " created " the absence of a thing (though I think She can), She

nevertheless creates the circumstance of lack through which " evil " is

manifested. It is the great tapestry of life, and something we all

need to come to terms with in our relationship with Her, eventually.

I think this matter of evil is very much a matter of perspective. I

remember Swamiji answering someone's, I guess it was Steven Newmark's,

question in Before Becoming This, about the end of the Satya Yuga, the

Age of Truth, that time in the Earth's history when life was nearest

to perfection. He described a time when all the saints and sages were

hunted down and murdered by the impassioned people of the newly

dawning darker age. This is a great evil, to murder a sage, but to

the sage it would have been wrong to use their great power to harm the

attacker. As Swamiji put it, they said to themselves, " It is a sin to

take advantage of another, but it is not a sin to be taken advantage

of, " and so they allowed themselves to be killed, or they withdrew to

the mountains.

The dark side won, as Swamiji said. It was the dharma of the time that

it was so. The procession of the ages required it, and much much more

pain and death in the millennia to come.

I think, as I have read again and again, that to the sage death is

like putting on a new suit. Though it seems a great evil to us,

especially untimely death, to those who can see beyond the ridge into

the land beyond, it is only part of a great and wonderful journey -

ultimately a journey of love. In some way I cannot now apprehend, it

must be true that all of this suffering we endure will become

unimportant, despite its present urgency, in the flood of bliss and

flames of wisdom that will destroy all this limitation when I am

finally freed by Her.

Like a dream, remembered, but unaffecting, I will see the great road

of striving and suffering, achievement and honors, as the pure

expression of Divinity and will revel only in its beauty.

Jai Maa!

Hi Chris,Thank you for your comments on this Subject. I agree with you when you write the following: "However, I think it is important to remember that God is the totality, including that which does not "exist". Vedanta points out that "all that exists is God". So both Good and evil cannot exist apart from God (and there can be no outside of God). The Dual world of opposites - good and evil, hot and cold are but the play of the Divine Mother - Shakti!I enjoyed reading your comment as well the original piece on Einstien.SivakumarChris <sadyojataya wrote: Hi Y'all, I wondered whether or not to reply to this even though I felt I had something to say.
