Guest guest
Namaste all family: tonight at the homa with Swami, we chanted the Rudrastadhyayi, the eight chapters in praise of Rudra, the form of Shiva known at the Reliever of Sufferings: He who takes away all tears and puts an end to all suffering. What fascinated me was the foreword to the text, which was written by Swami. He states that the traditional text has been chanted for thousands of years by sincere devotees of Shiva, " and the feelings and wisdom have been transmitted from generation to generation and that those who chant these verses can feel the vibrations of these many generations of sincere worshipers and can receive this transmission themselves. " Imagine the power and Grace transmitted through these mantras. How many countless devotees chanted these mantras, for how many years, and how much energy and devotion is contained in them? Swami continues: ... " these hymns help to take away our suffering and grant us peace. They are filled with inspiration, and the tones of their chanting conduct our vibrations to radiant purity. As we continue to chant these hymns, we experience more and more love for God. Shiva comes to give us His darshana, the blessed vision of His divine presence. " Thinking about this, a whole new level of understanding is beginning to open to me. It is not just the mantras and hymns themselves, chanted today, but, it is the cumulative effect of all the previous souls who chanted before us. Now, when we sit to chant, all that energy comes to us, and it will go forward to the next devotees who sit to chant. This really blows my mind. That these hymns contain all this power. It sheds a whole new light on the process of storing and transmitting energy within sacred sounds, these mantras. Thanks Swami for teaching us the deeper meaning and method of chanting within the sacred tradition of Lord Shiva. Without this knowledge, we would not value the experience and understand the real priviledge that it is to worship.
