Namaste all: those of you who watched the Brahman puja on-line at the

Mandir Monday night, caught a glimpse of an extraordinary sight: a

devotee with a large snake around his neck, dressed as Lord Shiva,

giving darshan.

The evening began quietly as we prepared for aarti. Swami said we

should be ready for some special event, but we thought he was

referring to the Brahman puja. Little did we know what was in store

for us all.

Then a devotee named Paul indicated he had brought a snake to the

Temple. Why is a snake in the Temple, we wondered? What role would

it play in our puja?

After aarti, Maa took Paul into Her private room, and after sometime,

Paul emerged dressed as Lord Shiva. Maa asked him to put the 6' long

boa constrictor around his neck, then She posed him in front of the

main altar, and directed that his picture be taken. Then She bought

Paul to the lingum by the homa, and She and Paul posed together,

giving blessings. Next Maa had Paul take the snake, named Adam, to

Her lingum and have the snake touch and bless it. Then he did the

same for the lingum by the homa.

Next, Maa and Swami performed the Brahman puja to the male devotees

sitting on the floor, and blessed each of us, thanking us for

performing sadhana, and preserving the knowledge for future

generations. After giving us gifts of money, cloth, and food, Swami

asked that each of us bless him. He bowed to each of us in turn, and

we blessed him, each offering him our heartfelt blessings.

Then, Swami send Paul and the snake back to the main altar, and Swami

had him stand with his back to Lakshmi, and bless us all. Swami said:

" This is how Lord Shiva looks. "

Then the snake was passed to Paul's wife, Seema, who gently held the

snake, and then the snake glided across the floor towards us. We

touched it and felt the calm energy of it and marveled at its beauty.

Afterwards, the snake was retired to his box, and we went to the

kitchen for prasad: famous Mandir homemade pizza.

Truly a magical evening, filled with blessings and surprises. Maa and

Swami continue to surprise and delight us, finding new ways to stop

our minds, and open our hearts.

Truly, they are extra-ordinary Gurus. God Bless Them for all Eternity.

Jai Ma Jai Swami
