Namaste all: I asked Swami to comment on our discussion about fear. I

asked him to describe fear, describe its source, and state how to

eliminate fear.

Here is his response.

SWAMI SAID:

Fear is a painful feeling of impending loss or harm to the objects of

one's attachments. It is perceived in many ways, not only as an injury

or loss inflicted upon or about to be inflicted upon the attachments

we already have, but also as not achieving a goal which one is

pursuing. This uncomfortable apprehension of injury, loss or failure

is perceived as Fear.

Fear is real - at least to the person who is experiencing it. It is

born of our Anxiety regarding an action which may produce harm or

failure. This Anxiety is one of the Generals in the army of the Great

Ego. And it is our faith in the Divine Mother which causes Her to

intercede on the behalf of devotees, and remove the attachments, and

therefore the Anxiety and the fear.

When Fear arises during our daily activities, if we can just stop for

a moment and remember our sankalpa, our purpose, our goals, and why

they are important to us, if we can remember our ultimate goal - to

unite with the DIvine Mother, then all of the smaller attachments will

pale in significance before the much larger goal of unity with God.

Return to our center. Be still. Remember that Mother loves us.
