Guest guest
Dear Manjusha, Papia, DEvi, and Edward, Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on " what is our true wealth " . Our wealth is what we appreciate and use efficiently. So true! When we are one with everything we own everything are truly wealthy. Our sadhana and joy of being with Mother is our wealth. Verse 11 describes Her function as the Goddess of wealth: " She manifests in our hearts to do battle with the desires of want. " The fewer our desires, more is the space for Divine Mother to manifest. The more we think of our and worship Her, more She manifests. Yesterday we had a visiting sadhu who is a devotee of Mother from his childhood. He said, " it is hard to find Mother outside, as She is inside us. Whenever you have confusion chant Mother's mantra and go inside and all doubts will vanish. " Love srini

Guest guest
Dear Manjusha, Thank you! Distance makes the heart grow fonder. Maa once said different devotees have different types of devotion. Those far away and those near. Everything She accepts. Love srini , " misra_manjusha " <misra_manjusha wrote: > > Dear Srini Sadhu, > > Namaste! Thank you for taking my thoughts forward. Guest guest
Dear Srini, When I read your message 'Distance makes the heart grow fonder' it set me thinking... Is it only because of the distance that my heart grows fonder? Or at the other extreme, does familiarity breed contempt? Your message took me into a different realm. Let lay out my thought process for you. I recently rediscovered some interviews I had downloaded last year from Andrew Cohen's website 'What is Enlightenment'. The interviews are intellectually stimulating. This one was interesting because it was with Yogi Amrit Desai.. I remembered that in Swamiji's book on Maa and their enchanting life, there is mention of a visit to the Kripalu Center. Relating the interview with the book gave me good insight into the issue of discrimination in knowing a true Guru. Amrit Desai had inspired many people and helped them awaken their kundalini. Yet he could fall. As Swamiji has so very delicately pointed out, he hadn't let go of his ego (sense of personal power), despite what might seem as spiritual advancement to us lesser mortals. He says in the interview that disciples create their own image of the Guru and project it onto the Guru! Swami Dayananda Saraswati, who has an ashram 30 miles outside Coimbatore, says there may be millions of Indian housewives who have attained the level of Samadhi that Raman Maharshi had attained, but without a formal training in Vedanta they couldn't possibly be enlightened!!!? In short, your simple statement led me to think and read and search a lot. Thank You, because it helped me draw some 'enlightened' conclusions. It also made me value Maa and Swamiji much more. Their life is exemplary. Their values have grown on me gradually like a flower that blooms. Is distance a factor? I think not. As you rightly pointed out in your message they touch your heart from wherever they are. I have experienced this first hand. I search the internet for various views on the subject of spirituality and its relevance to everyday living. There is a lot of material out there that is so stimulating, but when I come to the virtual 'Devi Mandir' Shree Maa and Swamiji's home, I feel I'm home. There is no conflict of values, there is peace and harmony and space to grow. Jai Maa and Jai Swamiji Lots of love Manjusha , " srini_sadhu " <srini_sadhu wrote: > > Dear Manjusha, > > Thank you! > > Distance makes the heart grow fonder. > > Maa once said different devotees have different types of devotion. > Those far away and those near. Guest guest
there may be millions of Indian housewives who have attained the level of Samadhi that Raman Maharshi had attained, but without a formal training in Vedanta they couldn't possibly be enlightened!!!? Dear Manjusha, (My apologies for the previous false posting that got away in an incomplete form.) Billions of fish live in the ocean (arise from it, live their life in it, and are re-absorbed by it in the end) without ever knowing that such a thing as 'ocean' exists. Just so, millions of Indian housewives (and others) have experienced Truth countless times, only without recognizing it for what it is. Ramana, Vedanta, and other great advaita teachers did/do not give methods and techniques, but rather 'point' directly at That which cannot be named but nevertheless is always, already the case. At a minimum, the 'pointing', (the guru function) is necessary for the fish to 'notice' the ocean. Some, on Shiva's side of the family, prefer the direct pointing alone. Others, on Mother's side of the family, appreciate and relish a rich variety of methods and techniques as well. Who is right? Who is wrong? With respect, Tanmaya P.S. By the Way, if you look closely at Shree Maa, you will notice that She is always Pointing. > , " srini_sadhu " <srini_sadhu@> wrote: > > > > Dear Manjusha, > > > > Thank you! > > > > Distance makes the heart grow fonder. > > > > Maa once said different devotees have different types of devotion. > > Those far away and those near. Guest guest
Dear Tanmaya, Thank you for your views. Actually I have been mulling on what enlightenment would mean for me. Whether a few moments of clarity about the cosmos will change my life, give me more depth and dimension in dealing with life, give me extraordinary powers to change things, or to 'see' things, or will it be an intense personal moment which I may prolong through practice. When I read about Maharishi Mahesh Yogi being able to elevate people, I thought what good is being elevated going to do for me. Swamiji helped me define enlightenment - I now know that enlightenment is knowing the true goal of life - which is union with God. Maa and Swamiji have inspired me to develop my life strategy for achieving my Goal. Setting small term targets, devising action plans, keeping the Goal in sight all the time. So mystic experiences might be wonderful, but they are just treasures that I may collect on my way. True knowledge (described in the vedantas), gives me understanding and discrimination to devise my strategies. One might read the entire set of scriptures without really understanding them. But people like Maa and Swamiji, who are close to the Goal, take our hands and lead us. They take away our confusion. How wonderful it is to share views. Jai Maa and Jai swamiji Manjusha , " ty_maa " <dsjames wrote: > > > > >
Guest guest
Dear Manjusha, Yes indeed to all the above (or rather below). And I also certainly share your views that 'experiences', which are just milestones along the way, and which some have and some do not, as well as psychic tricks, are not the goal of spiritual life. Swami Vivekananda, after a long life of practice, realization, and teaching, concluded that the best indicator of spiritual progress is the development of a noble character. And he concluded that character building was his new gospel. We all have an intuitive sense of what 'character' is, even though dictionary definitions may differ or be vague, because it is really an external reflection of the Truth which we all have within ourselves. As one approaches that inner Truth, it shines through the material and mental sheaths as the increasingly luminous light of character. Thus even we ordinary folks can quite accurately judge the validity of a saint or teacher by the purity of character of that person. Luckily for us, the highest degree of noble character is present before us daily in the form of Shree Maa and Swamiji.
