Guest guest
Daska's Sacrifice in brief Sati, the consort of Shiva was the daughter of Daksha. Sati had married Shiva against the wishes of her father, who was conducting a great sacrifice (yagna) to initiate the procedure of creation. In an effort to insult Shiva, Daska invited all of the gods and goddesses except his son in law Shiva. Sati learnt of the sacrifice and attended against the wishes of Shiva but when she arrived, she too was insulted by her father and told if she wanted to stay she should go and remain in the room with the other women. He further insulted Shiva by telling Sati that Shiva had no place there. Sati responded by telling her father that she was ashamed to wear the body that he had given her and she was giving it back to him She then sat down in meditation and in the fire of yoga her soul ascended to heaven. When Shiva felt his Shakti had dissolved he became enraged and ordered the destruction of Daksha's sacrifice.
